No game today and my golf got rained out, so I took a few minutes to check on platoon splits for the Twins. Probably the biggest surprise is the reverse split for Jake Cave (SSS). Also, my recollection was that Cron and Schoop came to the Twins with negligible splits and both have rather decided splits as lefty killers this year.

Switch hitters--Adrianza and Gonzalez have been better against LH pitching, while Polanco has excelled against right handers.

Each player will be listed with OPS vs. LH pitcher(L), then RH pitcher ®, and finally combined (T).

Adrianza L-.908 R-.770 T-.802

Arraez L-.717 R-.879 T-.836

Astudillo L-.678 R-.669 T-.665

Buxton L-.924 R-.798 T-.827

Castro L-.432 R-.866 T-.799

Cave L-1.085 R-.775 T-.838

Cron L-1.023 R-.711 T-.798

Cruz L-1.158 R-.983 T-1.027

Garver L-1.103 R-.841 T-.934

Gonzalez L-.816 R-.705 T-.736

Kepler L-.864 R-.870 T-.868

Polanco L-.685 R-.914 T-.845

Rosario L-.813 R-.824 T-.822

Sanó  L-.966 R-.905 T-.923

Schoop L-.934 R-.714 T-.769

Also illustrates how the Twins...to the extent you can call this offense 'vulnerable'...are vulnerable to tough right-handed pitching. Given this lineup, you'd wish that Kepler and Rosario, in the front/middle of the lineup, crushed right-handed pitching...they really don't. Their splits this year (870 for Kepler and 824 for Rosario) are good, not great...and, actually better than their career numbers against righties. It hasn't hurt much given how many of the right-handed bats have handled most right-handers. The challenge comes when facing a right-hander that doesn't fit into the category of 'most'.

Wow.   10 of our 14 top hitters have OPS north of .800 and those that don't are not very far away.    Last year Escobar was our top OPS guy and of the guys still here Rosario was top OPS of .803.  Team OPS  was .723 in 2018 and it is .838 so far this year.    Of the 4 guys we added only Cruz has OPS over .800 (way over) which means that of the 10 guys with OPS over .800 this year 9 of them were in our system last year.   Another way to look at it is our top returning OPS from last year would be 10th best this year.   Just a nice rebuttal the next time someone says how can you keep the same guys and expect different results.  Not saying the new guys haven't made a big difference.   They have.   But still.
