Back in My Day...

It drives my girlfriend crazy that I refuse to pay for delivery. It has to be a situation where I am drinking and unable to drive for me to even consider delivery. Otherwise I'd rather just drive and get it myself.

My grand parents had one of those monsters in their yard too. The grand kids weren't allowed to go within 15 feet of it. According to my grandpa it was pointed in the exact direction to get the channels he wanted.

My uncle Tommy had one, too

i remember being in his chicken coop almost about to vomit and then coming outside to see that

He was a true character. Moved out to Colorado when he was 50 to become a cattle rancher. Snap your fingers. That's how fast that happened

I'm a big fan of the awkward, stunted conversation with the teenager who would rather be anywhere else than delivering a pizza to your house, let alone talking to you.

He had a Billy Martin vibe to him. Liked his beer, wore a cowboy hat, kinda thin, hunted, had the same cheesy moustache...

Back in my day no moustache was cheesy

While that's fun, it's still not worth the $3-4 "delivery fee" plus tip... That $12 pizza turns into a $20 pizza real quick.

just because you can afford it doesn't justify it...

I'm the same way... it's a big waste of money.

I mean, if you're going to go down that road, how do you justify ordering pizza to begin with?

A person could cook more food for less money if they did it from scratch.

When you order a pizza from a restaurant, you're paying extra for the convenience of having someone else do the shopping, and the preparation, and the cooking. How is that any different than paying extra for the convenience of not having to drive to the restaurant and back?

I'm certainly not knocking the practice of skipping the delivery, I sometimes will do that as well, but I don't see a distinguishable difference that "justifies" the extra cost of the prepared pizza, but not the delivery.

Back in my day the D&D video game would print out a room on a dot matrix printer, then you had to input what you would do on a keyboard. Then stuff would happen, and if you didn't die (your magic user could only cast one spell a day, btw), it printed a long hall, or another room. Slowly. On a dot matrix printer.

So back in your day people used to cook their own pizza?

Back in my day I used to like pizza. But now it’s difficult to eat it without triggering a massive acid reflux attack. Thinnest crust, blonde, veggies only is the only pizza I can eat ... which I’ve been told isn’t pizza. So, back in my day I used to like and eat pizza. Now all I can manage is a ‘shadow of its former self’ pizza.

My bro-in-law makes his own pizza, doesn’t buy it, or have it delivered. Not sure if it’s due to his Italian heritage or not, but according to my sister, it’s way better than delivery. :)

well, it turns a cheap eating out meal to an expensive one in a hurry... not to mention you're stuck waiting on that delivery guy whenever they get around to it... I don't order pizza much anyways, as it doesn't work with my diet unfortunately... but like Van, I always carry out.

With carry out you can get your pizza in 15-20 min. Delivery it's 45-60 minutes plus delivery fee plus tip. Doesn't make sense to me if I'm capable of driving there myself.

Back in my day, I believed in Santa Claus. And the Easter Bunny ... which, looking back on it, why does anyone teach their kids to believe in the Easter Bunny? At least with Santa you can, kind of, teach 'the spirit of giving,' but the Easter Bunny? What purpose did he serve? But I never believed in the Great Pumpkin, but in my day, it was a good Charlie Brown special.

I used to deliver pizza while going through University. Glad you jokers weren’t around or I’d still be paying for it.

Back in my day, kids were told when to grow up and not allowed into adulthood without said advice.

We got it in 1982. One of the first shows I liked was "Not Necessarily the News"

Rich Hall and "sniglets" was my favorite sketch. I submitted a sniglet "lefferts" (inspired by the pitcher Craig Lefferts). They were the crumbly pieces of paper left begin when you opened an envelope.

(It didn't get on the air)

I loved sniglets, back in the day. The only I seem to remember is “bedwinds” which (unlike what you might imagine) are the winds that keep a sheet from landing square on the bed when you are making it.

Also, back in my day, the front seat of the car was a bench, Kirby Puckett batted lead-off, Herb Carneal called the game, and the reliever were delivered to the mound in a golf cart fashioned to sort look like a baseball hat.

There is an explanation, but it borders on what is no longer discussed here....
