Back in My Day...

In my day I bought albums and wore concert t-shirts. The first band I saw was the Kinks. Then I saw Rush a couple of months later (right when Tom Sawyer and Limelight came out).

Those monster tours just don't happen anymore and that is a shame

Yeah, back in my day bands had guitar players.

Back in my day the tallest building in Minneapolis was the Foshay Tower. The local TV stations put their broadcast antennas atop it. Twins games were on WTCN, and the Vikings were on WCCO (TV).

Back in my day we were one of the first test communities to get cable tv. I’ve never known a time without it. And I’m far from young.

We got it in 1982. One of the first shows I liked was "Not Necessarily the News"

Rich Hall and "sniglets" was my favorite sketch. I submitted a sniglet "lefferts" (inspired by the pitcher Craig Lefferts). They were the crumbly pieces of paper left begin when you opened an envelope.

(It didn't get on the air)

Yeah, back in my day bands had guitar players.

When there were debates over who was the best guitarist, drummer etc....

When beer companies required jingles...

And when phones were on kitchen walls covered with wallpaper

Back in my day we had cereal where the primary ingredient was sugar.

Yeah, "Sugar" was right there in the product name. Sugar Crisp, Sugar Smacks,...

Kids today, they don't know how easy they've got it.

We had it in the 60s. Lunch with Casey Jones!

Man. I knew we were behind but sheesh

We were a cable test community. Where we were you couldn’t pick up stations out of the Cities, Rochester or LaCrosse. Cable was a test for those communities and our only channels on cable were the major 3 networks plus a couple of independents.

Back in my day, they used to print out the Internet, and then send out some low-life with high aspirations to try to sell you a copy for a thousand bucks, calling it an Encyclopedia.

Back in my day, Amazon was called Sears, and every few months they would print out a book with some of the deals, and once a year they would print out all of the deals, and send it to you unasked.

Back in my day, there was only one phone provider, and they would print out everybody's contact list and send you a copy, whether you knew those people or patronized their businesses or not.

Man, we killed a lot of trees, back in my day. Kids today don't know what that felt like.

When you were young and your heart

Was an open book

You used to say live and let live

(You know you did)

(You know you did)

(You know you did)

But if this ever changin' world

In which we live in

Makes you give in and cry

Say live and let die

Live and let die

- Paul and Linda McCartney

Back in my day this was the apex of entertainment on long car rides. Dad was bothered when we turned on the lights to see our screen at night though...

My family had the eco-friendly analog version of the Gameboy... no batteries!

Then a tile fell out so we upgraded to the analog Nintendo DS, made from all-renewable materials:

I used to love those games above...  We also used to play a paper version of battle ship in the car.

Speaking of battleships - this was the car:

Also old enough to remember when the remote control was the youngest person in the room.

Holy carp!

My first car was a 1972 Galaxie 500 which looked almost like that. Same color only that is a Mercury.

By the way...

This was 1983 when I got that car so it was 11 years old. Back in my day teenagers were not seen driving cars that were less than five years old. That just didn't happen

Yes - I graduated in '86, and anyone who had a car, it was far from new, whether it was technically their car or their parents let them use the "second" car.

Back in my day, we didn't have Monty Python to keep us entertained, and had to make do with At Last The 1948 Show.

Right, and you try and tell that to the young people of today.

When I was in high school my town got cable TV. We also got a garage door opener and a microwave. MTV came on the scene and hippies were not cool (neither was MTV I my opinion)

Our neighbors out in the country in Iowa had one of these in the 80s.

Antenna

My grand parents had one of those monsters in their yard too. The grand kids weren't allowed to go within 15 feet of it. According to my grandpa it was pointed in the exact direction to get the channels he wanted.

getting back to pizza.

Back in my day Dominos delivered.  When I was really plastered i'd order a pizza delivered to my house and ride along with the driver.

You displayed touching faith that the driver himself wasn't stoned out of his gourd (as we used to say, Back In My Day ).

Dominos has been around a long time

I never had food delivered to me in my life until I went to college. Then I discovered Dominos (usually after inhaled wacky tobaccy)
