Twins Acquire RHP Marcos Diplan

Recommended Posts

Any information on why he was DFA'd, Seth?  Was it the Brewers creating space to bring people in?  Or is he having a terrible year?

Also, is he on the 40-man?  If not, does he need to be added this year?

Otherwise, could he potentially be a flip candidate in the next hour?

Guessing he's replacing a Twins AA starting pitching prospect being sent out in a trade. Graterol? Duran? Alcala? Colina? Jax?

Walking 5.8 per 9 this year, and 4.9 per 9 for his 6-year career. I'm guessing the lack of improvement made it inevitable once they needed room for Lyles.

Details may not yet be complete, but there's a Brewers-Giants trade and perhaps the numbers were such that Milwaukee needed to make room and had already made Diplan available for cash.

Also, he's having a terrible year.

Wow! Everyone trying to read this post is causing the TwinsDaily site to eitehr crasj or go really slow. I wonder why the Twins didn't go after Marlins starter last night Zac Gallen, who was obtained for basically a younger Nick Gordon. Plus Nick Andersson was also available, or so it seems.

Gald to see the Twins spending money wisely. Maybe they are holding back, waiting to put in a waiver claim in August!

Haha. I knew this FO would do next to nothing at the deadline. We get 1 MLB relief pitcher and that's it. We have a bullpen of Rogers, Romo, and a bunch of AAA guys. What a joke.

Is it too late to make a bet with you about this?

THis is a space filling acquistiion at best.   He has a career 5.83 minor league ERA and is a 25 year old prospect who has not pitched above AA.  He spent 3 years in the DOSL league with an ERA over 6, a full year as a 22 year old in rookie ball with a 6.79 ERA.

Where are you getting these stats? According to baseball reference he had a 1.54 ERA in the DOSL as a 17 year old, and his age 22 season is this year, with a 4.99 ERA in AA. He hasn't been in rookie ball since he was 18. I'm seeing a 3.87 career minor league ERA.

Diplan is on the 40-man.

Diplan was DFA'd because the Brewers acquired Jordan Lyles in trade 2 days ago. He is also having a poor year... and I guess the Pirates possibly passed on taking him as part of the Lyle trade...

I suspect he will be a top candidate for 40-man removal, should we need a spot. But he should get a little time to see if he can get straightened out in the Twins org.

I've been banging the drum on the Marlins boatload of pitching talent and their lack of trading acumen/payroll management problems all season.

They actually got a first hand helping of Gallen and didn't jump on the chance to take him back on the plane ride back to the Cities? And Caleb Smith and Anderson could have been obtained for relatively less.

Has anyone written an article yet on what the potential waiver claim market is going to look in August under the new rules?

Aggravating and frustrating.....

The Marlins got back the #42 prospect for Anderson, and the #59 prospect for Gallen.

Assuming they'd also want position players from us, we can only top that with Lewis and Kirilloff. That's an overpay, IMO.

Sometimes you just don't match up in a trade.

Move him to the bullpen in the minors and see if he finds a rhythm, if not, DFA him. Trying to fix a 22 year old prospect isn’t a bad idea, but he has his work cut out for him if he wants to stay on the 40 man over the winter.
