Cron Returned To IL (Thorpe/Stashak Promoted)

Dustin Morse just tweeted the Twins Transactions.

As Jeremy Nygaard was first to mention, Cody Stashak was added to the 40 and 25 man roster.

In addition, Lewis Thorpe was called up.

To make room, Zack Littell was optioned and CJ Cron placed on IL.

What has Zack Littell done to deserve being demoted this time?

Pitched 3 games in a row.

The Twins will likely be recalling him again in 10 days. This is just to bring up a fresh arm for the Yankees series I suspect.

I do not believe his demotion is in any way a form of punishment. Just a result of recent usage.

And he has options, unlike someone like May

I like to see Stashak up and Thorpe back. My biggest concern is regarding who they are pitching against. I'd bet Baldelli's first instinct is to go with the vets, which means Parker, Duffey, May and 30-year-old rookie Harper.

Maybe that will be the right call, but I could also see the trio of Stewart, Thorpe and Stashak being healthy and rested, yet not being put to use because, gasp, it's the Yankees, while the vets struggle again.

I want to see what Stashak can do in the Majors.  However, it scares me somewhat that based on what I have read about his stuff he needs to be damn near perfect to succeed.  He obviously is not over-powering and if he has some nerves (expected in MLB debut against the Yankees) being pin-point accurate could prove difficult.

Would have been nice to get his feet wet a little earlier, and get comfy up here.  But, they need fresh arms until they trade for more.

Sano should not play 3B again until Cron is back. Playing him at 3B with Adrianza (or Gonzalez) at 1B is dumb. He's been brutal at 3rd.

Well Sano is starting at 1B tonight.....

I'm guessing this being announced means Buxton will not be activated. That's not a good sign.

I was hearing that Buxton was going to need more time. I would guess he’s activated in August, but I am just recklessly speculating.

Where did you here that? I read he took batting practice, ran the bases and completed outfield drills yesterday.

I'd be surprised to great extent if he debuts in a close-and-late situation. Same with Thorpe. Thorpe probably around in case a starter doesn't get through 5.

On yesterday's broadcast they were pretty optimistic about him returning today.

How many more dingers can May give up before he gets DFA?

A lot more than Littell. May has better stuff, he just needs to command his pitches and walks less, a lot less. I am not sure Littell is going to survive in the major league.

I believe my source was Skor North, here is the tidbit:

BUXTON UPDATE (7/20/22)

Center fielder Byron Buxton is eligible to return from the seven-day concussion list on Sunday but it appears very unlikely that will happen. Baldelli provided no promises as to when Buxton will be back after suffering concussion-like symptoms a week ago Saturday in Cleveland when he dived for a line drive.

I might have read into that too much, I assumed he would miss more time, but going back the article appears to just be talking about Sunday. So there's a decent chance I'm wrong here.
