Jose Berrios' reaction to the Morin for cash considerations move: They just want to get money

One hears about a manager "losing the clubhouse." I don't recall a FO discussed in similar terms. But if asked, as a seasoned General Manager over many, many seasons*, I would advise FalVine to be careful about this.

* playing Out Of The Park. :)

While it looks like the Twins will be making moves at the deadline, just for once in my life I would like to see the Pohlads takes their heads out of their pocketbooks and make the splash move that puts this team into serious contention. It seems maybe some of the players are realizing the Pohlad's M.O. as well.

Sure hope they make some moves to bolster bullpen otherwise they look silly and hate to say but more players may be taking to Twitter or newspaper airing their frustration. Rocco at this point only trusts Rogers and at this rate his arm may fall off by sept

I don’t see it that way. The cash is minimal. Morin’s contract is minimal. My perception is they want to improve the bullpen. My perception doesn’t matter though.

Berrios’ perception is real and the front office should be concerned. I doubt it was this one move that caused the response from Jose.

Maybe perceptions will change if they take on some contracts at the deadline.

Berrios is a folk hero if the FO does nothing (or next to nothing) in the next two weeks. But, it's not like you can trade Morin. And if this proves to be a step in clearing space for material upgrades, the Tweet ends up looking pretty childish on Berrios's part. Having said that...I think Berrios just has that fire that you want...and he's due for a shut-down performance...maybe over-due. Tonight could be interesting.

Unless they're going to try and take on Greinke's contract or something, these trades are going to be expensive prospect-wise, likely not payroll-wise. I don't think the Pohlads give a hoot if we give up some prospects (and spend $5-10M) to get some reinforcements.

Well at least better than losing Morin for nothing.

You would expect they could get a lottery ticket for all these DFA guys. Cash is wrong in so many ways. Better than nothing, but it does not send a good message to what they are trying to do.

Why is cash wrong?  They could have just let the Phillies claim him and have him for nothing, instead they get some cash kicked back.

I see it as them trying to upgrade the bullpen by getting rid of dead weight, not being cheap.

Perhaps if a follow on move had come in the 24 hours or so after the DFA, this line of reasoning would carry a bit more weight.

I wish Berrios would have more fire on the mound these days, instead of on Twitter. Am I the only one who is tired of the mantra - Berrios doesn't have his best stuff today......?

Agreed. It seems silly for a player to get worked up about this, he probably doesn't get that the Phillies were going to claim Morin and get him for nothing anyway, but that doesn't really matter. The fact that Jose is salty about this definitely DOES matter and the org needs to reach out to him about it and smooth things out.

I would imagine the team looks at the bullpen and wonders why the front office has done nothing, too.

Ironically enough the bullpen has performed better than the starting pitching and the offense over the past 5-6 weeks.  Maybe some of the players should look at themselves and figure out how to play good baseball again instead of blaming the front office, we all know they are capable of it.

the bullpen has cost the Twins three games just since the AS break.

Take out Rogers and it is terrible, no matter how lucky they might have gotten for a time.

Annnnnnnnnd it's been deleted.

Any thought to deleting the thread here?

We can let it go too or we can go on for pages in the initial moment.

Are we blaming the bullpen for last night's game?  Twins last scored in the 3rd inning and Odorizzi gave up the tying run.

Are we blaming the bullpen in the 4-3 lost the Indians?  Twins had the bases loaded with zero outs and could only manage 1 run to the tie the game.  Yes, May gave up the HR to Santana, but that's all the runs they scored the entire game.

I get it, the meta thing is to rag on the bullpen and the front office, but outside of a few games where they blew up, the offense really hasn't been there for an extended period of time now.

It's a fair question, and I'll offer my snap opinion (as only a moderator, not an owner or featured writer) - others might chime in too.

The removal of the tweet was almost certainly a PR decision.

The removal of discussion here would be an editorial decision.

TD is independent of the Twins and is not responsible for the team's PR. Not symmetric situations.

/ edit - I should add, again with my moderator's hat on, that this thread obviously will bear heavy scrutiny for respectful posting without trolling.

Nope.

If people want to let it go, that's fine, this thread will die off and fade away. I don't see any reason to delete it though.

I don’t think the correct response here is to suggest that the players should start playing 110-win baseball again. Other posters obviously disagree.

There's 110 win pace they were on in the 1st 70 games, and there's 76 win pace they have been on in the last 26 games.  I believe there is a happy medium.
