Rays to promote Brendan McKay

I remember him being discussed as the possible #1 pick (possibly here?) when the Twins took Royce Lewis.

McKay ended up going #4 to Tampa and, being a college kid, advanced through the ranks pretty quickly. Kyle Wright went to Atlanta at #5 and has also made his MLB debut this year on the mound.

Hunter Greene, the #2 pick is unfortunately out for the year with TJ surgery.

No regrets on taking Lewis, I just find it notable that a couple of guys from Royce's class (albeit college guys) are getting their feet wet already at the MLB level.

Both have gotten to the MLB quickly, but I don't know that either look like elite talents. So far Wright's MiLB performance looks fine but not front of the rotation fine. As many expected, McKay's bat doesn't look like it will play at the MLB level, I'd concede that his pitching numbers in the minors are pretty excellent. Going into the draft I didn't think a low 90's FB and limited repertoire would turn him into an elite pitcher, maybe it will.

Not that we know enough about Lewis at this point.

I might be in the minority but I wasn't sold on McKay for the number 1 pick.  To start with I thought Wright was the safer better pick for the Twins and in the end I was interested in an under slot deal for Gore.

McKays velocity scared me and taking a 1st baseman that high didn't seem like a smart move.  He had good stuff I just wasn't a believer.  I was never on the Green bandwagon either.  Felt like an injury risk to me and sure enough TJ already.  He still might be very good I just felt it was a risky pick.

I never had Lewis on my radar at all for the number one pick. We needed pitching and there was good pitching at the top I thought for sure that we would grab a pitcher.  I am not unhappy with Lewis since they got him so far under slot and maybe Enlow is a good consolation prize time will tell. I just didn't think he had a chance to go number 1.

Looks like Mckay might have been better than I thought he would be as a pitcher.  Hopefully his debut is better than Mr. Wrights.

The thing I'll be watching is the Pitching/Hitting combination and how Tampa deploys his services.

Ohtani broke through the wall... McKay is next and many others will follow.

Baseball finally getting around to fixing a mistake it has been making for decades.

Finally letting players who can pitch and hit... pitch and hit. Instead of the strict specialization it has been deploying for decades.

We are going to find out that Ohtani and McKay are not as rare as they currently seem.

Picking nits, but Wright pitched out of the bullpen last season in the majors.
