Biggest Risers

Recommended Posts

We're still a little while away from the point where we'll start to see some midseason prospect list updates, but I think there have been enough games to start to see who's been boosting their stock this year.

Here are the guys I have as the biggest risers in the Twins system this year.

Jordan Balazovic

Lewis Diaz

Ben Rortvedt

Travis Blankenhorn

Bailey Ober

Graterol, Larnach, Jax, and Jeffers have all done well, but I think they are probably performing closer to expected than the other five guys listed.

Anyone else jumping out at you? Smeltzer and Arraez could be included in this as well but I didn't throw them in since they're in the majors.

I think you're list is good. I had Rortvedt around #10 on my pre-season list so I'm not as surprised about him. I wasn't quite ready to give up on Blankenhorn but I had given up on Diaz and Jax. Ober wasn't even on my radar. Balazovic was kinda in the sleeper category but I didn't expect this until I heard some stuff from Klaw.

I don't know what's going on with Cabbage but he certainly had a nice start to the season after falling off everyone's top 30.

I would probably add Jeffers to the list personally. He wasn't rated high to begin with being a college bat destroying younger peers... The fact that he's continued this will certainly get him notice... and we need more catching prospects, so this is all good. Tend to agree on Graterol, Larnach, and Jax…

Gordon, if he keeps hitting should see a rise too.

Lewis and Kirrilloff have been a bit disappointing. AK is doing OK I guess, but I was hoping for a bit more from both of them. Overall though, I think the system is stronger right now than what it was last November.

Watching a few of Alex's recent games, he's just off in timing. Balls that last year he was squaring for loud contact are being shot the other way right now. His swing looks good mechanically, and his eye is definitely fine at the plate. I had him higher than Royce entering the year, and I've had some talks with prospect writers around the interwebs who believe that behind Wander Franco, Kirilloff is in a pretty small group competing for #2.
