Game Thread: Twins vs White Sox 5:10 PM PST (7:10 PM CST) 5/24/2019

"Red-headed step-children are mollycoddled compared to this thrashing."

----Halos Heaven game thread, last game of the series against the Angels.

The above statement can be applied to multiple teams this season, with the way the Twins have been swinging the lumber.

And, even better, the Twins have also had their share of close games, yet found a way to win.

But, the White Sox are in town, and, as a division rival, cannot be overlooked, because things tend to be tough within the division. Witness what happened when the Twins played Detroit and split the series.

Currently, the Twins own an 8 game lead over Cleveland and take on a Chicago team that, with the young talent they have, should be trending in the right direction. (I had to look twice at the division lead and it's not even the end of May.)

One thing to note, though, is the White Sox continue to struggle in the field, currently ranking 29th out of 30 teams when it comes to catching the ball. Only Seattle is worse.

Let's hope the above statement can be applied to the White Sox after this next series.

Some things to think about:

1. Over/Under on the errors committed by the White Sox this series?

2. When does the Sox management figure out the ability to catch the ball should probably be considered when developing players?

3. Giolito shut out Houston.

4. Should be a fun series. Oh, who am I kidding? Every series this year has been fun.

Pitching for the Twins:

Jose Berrios

Pitching for the White Sox:

Reynaldo Lopez

5. Play ball!

Uncle Ted even wrote a song about the Twins and where they stand with the Central Division:

Disclaimer: For any inaccuracies in this thread, the author blames Stan, the guy in the second row 20 seats down from the dugout. If this opener is brilliant, the author blames everyone else, because the author has reached the point he's not really sure which end is up. Normally, the author knows which end is up, it's the getting the right side up that is usually the issue.

Thank you.

I get most nervous to play teams the Twins should have no trouble beating, and the White Sox come to town after just beating the Astros 2 of 3 in Houston, so I hope no one is saying, ‘Yay, we get to play the White Sox now!’ At least we won’t see Giolito this run. But we’ve always had a good rivalry with the Sox and they’ve always played us well. While we were awful last year, they were worse, and yet I still managed to sit through some horrible losses at their hands.

*2 of 4.

But I agree, the White Sox are not a pushover, they have some talent. I would not be terribly surprised to see them finish 2nd in the ALC.

In my eyes, there are three tiers of teams in the AL.

Contenders

Yankees Rays Red Sox Twins Astros

Mediocre

Indians White Sox Angels Athletics Rangers

Bad

Orioles Blue Jays Mariners Tigers Royals

The White Sox are going to be a very scary team within a couple years

Happy they're avoiding Giolito. He's looking like he's going to be a problem for a long time.

I'm planning on strolling over to the park for tonight's game, hopefully the weather clears up.

Forecast is clearing up by about 4:00. And since Target Field has drainage, should be good to go.

Sweeps are fun, but if the Twins keep winning series, I'll be happy (even if that means losing one at home against the hated* White Sox.

*Are they really "hated" any more? This is just the only real rivalry the Twins have, but it's seemed to have turned "meh" more than truly "hated" since the mid-00s.

Too optimistic. You forgot to factor in the heavier damp air, the ten degrees lower than normal temps, the "We Should Whip These Guys Syndrome" and the tired arms of Twins hitters. I'd put it closer to 20. But my beer glass is usually half empty.

I don't see Hawk Harrelson listed as a broadcaster for the Sox. Are the current guys any more tolerable? I always enjoyed hearing Hawk rationalize when his team was taking a beating, and I would hope there will be a lot of need for that in this series.

Solution.....buy more beer.

No Arraez in the line up. I'm guessing Twins announcing a couple of roster moves today. They don't want Arraez sitting on the bench when he could be playing everyday in AAA

From what it looks like, at least Littell will be returning to the Twins today
