Article: MIN 8, LAA 7: Twins Squeak Out Victory

Sure, but you gotta give credit to Morin for battling in a tough situation.    Did you see the part about 12 games without a run except for Hildenberger?   I'll accept a clunker every once in a while, especially when they escape with a win.

Exactly. Last year we would've found a way to lose this game. The feel around this team is that more often than not they're going to battle and have a good chance to come away with a W

Riddle me this, disgruntled batfans:

I get back north late after taking my son to the game for his 16th birthday. We scored great tickets. The weather was beautiful. Our team climbed to 12 games over .500.

Before turning out the lamp, I spent 10 minutes complaining to my wife about the bullpen. Finally, she's had enough.

"But honey, didn't your team win?"

As has been said, 2 games in a row that the Twins of recent years would probably have found a way to lose but hung on and won. Now, how Sano is used is a reality not just speculation. I hope he is on the bench tonight to reaclimate and be around his new team mates. Maybe pinch hit. Having said that he will probably start at 3rd and he if does I am afraid the Twins will lose, nit necessarily because of Sano; just a feeling.

I can't understand why Hildenberger throws that 80mph junk that he can't control. I think he has gotten bad advice on how to survive in the Major Leagues.

I've never really trusted any pitcher in a playoff series against anyone.    Nathan against the Yankees?  Nope.   Reardon, Buerengueer, Frazier, Schatzeder, Atherton, Niekro?  Nope  I probably had the most confidence in Aguilera.    I guess I'm not sure why a relief group would be good enough to win 4 of 7 in a regular season series but not a playoff series but we are getting way ahead of ourselves.   They still have to make the playoffs.

For everyone looking to Kimbrel as our savior, look at him in the playoffs last year.

He was anything but dominate

Hildenberger had to get sent down. he's a mess out there right now, he's fooling no one...he's had one good outing in his last six, and it's not like they've all been high leverage situations. His May has been abominable, so time to go back down to Rochester and see if he can get straightened out.

I don't think you panic on the Twins' bullpen yet, though. Parker, Rogers, and Harper have all been fine. May has been a little wobbly at times, but should be fine (unless he keeps walking 4 per 9...). Let's see what we can get out of Duffy, Magill, and Morin this month to see if they can fill up those 6th-7th inning jags. I'm liking the Ks out of Duffy & Magill, not loving the WHIP. I'm still not convinced Morin is anything other than Just Another Guy, but he's done enough so far that it's worth looking at him longer.

But I do hope the twins are willing to explore Kimbrel as an option. I'm assuming they're not willing to surrender the pick and basically everyone is out right now until June on him absent a major injury to a closer with a contender. But this team is showing enough competitiveness that they need to consider what it might take to bring him in. Now we as fans also need to realize that he probably doesn't pitch for 2 weeks after signing in MLB...and might struggle with control for a while too while he gets into game shape.

The Buxton question is interesting. He's playing very well: hitting with power, solid OBP, defense is stellar as always, and he's staying on the field. Are you better off moving up up where he gets more ABs, maybe gets the team off to fast starts...or do you follow the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule? I honestly don't know. Would it really make that much impact?

I'll admit, I'm just happy that he's hitting. He could put up a 5 bWAR season and really put himself back on the map. I love this guy, he's one of the most fun players the twins have had and I feel lucky we get to watch him play.

Wasn’t Sano in uniform and on the bench yesterday? Or did he not arrive before the game?

Tom stated:
Miguel Sano has also just been activated and could be seen in the lineup within the next week. Adding him to this already powerful lineup will just add fuel to the fire and give the Twins another weapon in the lineup.

Except that Sano is taking Garver's place and thus not improving the Twins lineup at this point.

When Garver comes back and if the 2017 "pre-injuries" Sano shows up, then we can make this statement.

Damn. Defeated by logic again.

I believe that is correct, but they were unsure if he was going to be there in time to actually play so he wasn't in the lineup. I don't know if he was available to PH if needed.
