Mark Trumbo?

I'm not normally the guy who throws out random names of other teams' players and speculates as to whether the Twins could get him, but I look at Trumbo as a guy who hit 30 HR's this year, but slumped TERRIBLY down the stretch to the point where he can't even get on the field for the Angels anymore. He's not going to play 1B with Puljos there, and the team remains committed to Kendrys Morales or any other number of aging sluggers they employ to hold down that DH spot. This guy seems to me like a younger version of Josh Willingham. He's not a .280 hitter, but I wonder if the Angels would part with him, and if we even have the pieces to make that happen. Would they want Willingham (they love veteran sluggers), or Span (more useful in the OF)? We've seen them take Torii off our hands in the past (as a free agent), so it's not impossible.

I mentioned Trumbo early in the season. He had a real hot stretch right after I mentioned him and the conversation appeared ridiculous. Now he has come back to earth a bit.

As far as I'm concerned the Twins could have one or two bashers like Willingham and Trumbo and it wouldn't hurt the team.

Don't the Twins have enough players for the DH spot? There's talk about Willingham moving to DH eventually (don't count on it yet), Doumit is a half DH, and the M&M bros love the DH spot too. Don't forget Parmalee.

If we didn't have Plouffe, maybe this would be a different story.

To even get the ball rolling we'd have to float Perkins, then a bunch more on top of that. Even after his slump Trumbo has put up a great year, he wouldn't come cheap.

LOL Perkins would have to be the third or 4th best player in a deal for Trumbo.

The Twins don't have the bullets to pull of a trade for Trumbo, and the last thing the Twins really need at this point is another 1B/RF/DH masher. I mean would this lineup be a lot better with him in it? Hell yes! But it's not worth giving up what it would take.

FWIW: Prior to last season I stated I thought the Twins should have taken a run at Trumbo at that point (since he was sort of the odd man out in the 1B/OF situation) could have gotten him a lot cheaper then...

Yeah, I think Perkins for Trumbo was the thread we had here in April before Trumbo got hot. Hard to judge Trumbo's value now.

Still, I don't know that he's an upgrade to Parmelee other than in name value. I think Trumbo is going to have a maddenly low OBP for a slugging first baseman. I'm sure he'll be a better player than his last two months have indicated, but judging by his minor league numbers, he's never going to get on base enough to justify the high strikeout rate.

Trumbo was a more prolific HR hitter in the minors, but Parmelee tops him in just about every other catagory. While Parmelee's K rate improved as he advanced through the minors, Trumbo's K's increased against the better competition. Trumbo's age 24 season in 2010 was spent mostly in in AAA and it was his best, producing a very nice .945 OPS while Parmelee's age 24 season was this year at AAA with a 1.102 OPS.

These two might be on a similar career arc only Parmelee is two years behind (and two years younger).
