This is heartbreaking

I think someone should make me read this every time I'm feeling a little sorry for myself over some relatively minor trouble or another.

I can't even imagine the pain of something like this. Ballplayers have lives outside of work, like the rest of us.

Unknowingly, Brooks gave his parents and his brother an amazing gift to go along with their unspeakable heartbreak, and they've been generous enough of heart to re-gift it to those of us fortunate enough to read his story. Thanks for sharing this, Chief.

Thanks for passing this along, Chief. When I was a teenager, I was a pallbearer for a very young child's funeral. Often when I read something like this I think of that day. I don't ever want to see that kind of grief again. Ever! I can't conceive of what it would be like to go through it oneself.

What an amazing job he did, describing the thought processes and emotions. You could think it and feel it.

These are stories that we all need to listen to... when someone needs to tell it.

Rich Hill and Pat Neshek discussing their families will quickly remind you that baseball is about way more than just a business. Obviously, in any business with as many employees as MLB (even just players), there will be stories like this, but it's still great to hear it.

Every once in a while I get a little reminder of how lucky Mrs Ash and I have been. Not just with our own offspring, but even in our extended family we've run into nothing like this. Everything pales in comparison. Just incomprehensible.
