Article: HOU 11, MIN 0: Completely Dominated

I wonder if there is anyone out there who would give up a decent pitcher or two for Sano?

Probably not right now. At best, maybe you could find a similar struggling "project" but even that might be a challenge. I notice Arizona demoted Zach Godley to the bullpen, for example, but they wouldn't really have a place to play Sano right now either (they're getting good production at 1B and 3B, and no DH).

I believe teams would come out of the woodwork to trade a decent pitcher or two. We have 2 more years of control after this season, he's cheap, plenty of time to deal once he's healthy etc.   Let's not forget prior to 2018, some members wanted to DFA Pressly and Gibson. No need to panic.

I don't know about that -- Reed's minor league numbers seem pretty marginal. I suspect he might be in the same class as Bard and Curtiss before him.

Yeah, it's usually not a good sign when a minor league pitcher who's already getting to go max-effort in a relief role still doesn't dominate. There's nowhere to go up from there unless something else improves.

After the injuries and wear/tear, does he still throw as hard as he did 2-3 years ago? Is his strikeout rate artificially elevated because he lives out of the zone too much, or does he actually have consistent swing-and-miss stuff?

Yeah, and maybe even one level below those two.

Ouch!!!

Just don't feel good when Pineda is on the mound.

In his defense, facing the Astros in back-to-back starts (one start in a band-box, the other in an ice-box) isn't exactly the ideal situation for any pitcher.

Just wait until Pineda faces the White Sox, Royals, Tigers et al, he'll be a 10 win guy when it's all said and done.

So, a number 4 or 5 pitcher? That's a pretty low bar. I hope he's better than that!

The attendance was abysmal again last night. MLB.com says 12,181. Ouch. This has to have some Twins execs losing sleep. They have really only had one home game with truly nice weather that I can remember - a night game against the Jays. Otherwise, it's been pretty miserable at Target Field this season weather wise. Would the attendance have been worse if they were 10-17 rather than 17-10? I don't think it would have mattered. People are fatigued by the cold weather after this past winter we endured.

There were not half that many people there. I was there...Most of those marked as in attendance most definitely were not there

His command looks rotten too. way too many pitches that really aren't close. Making it way too easy for a hitter to wait for a 3-ball count and a grooved fastball right now.

certainly didn't help it was a night where the D was discombobulated and the hitters were flailing at everything.

Write it off as a bad night, hope cruz isn't injured, and run it back tonight.

As I just said above, I was at the game. Pineda looked to be working quickly and was on the verge of getting through the first two innings with around 20 pitches when we committed our first error of the night. Pineda survived two errors without allowing an unearned run but by the 5th inning you could see him clearly frustrated and giving the defense behind him looks of frustration. The errors were not the only questionable to bad D behind him. I honestly felt sorry for him and his defense left him hanging out to dry throwing way more pitches than he should of through the first several innings. It's no wonder he melted down and lost complete control in the 5th and 6th.

Was the second deck even open?

My tickets were in the upper deck (free from a local radio station...someone else won them and gave them to me so...) We were not alone up there but we only stayed up there for 1.5 innings before deciding we would rather stand under the warmers down a level or two than sit up there in a fairly brisk breeze.

Fortunately we moved down before the drizzle resumed.

Reed is not on the 40-man, so almost certainly he will have to wait until the FO makes a decision that some current player simply can not be salvaged. It's May now, so that time may come soon.

Like Addison Reed, for example. Moving him to 60 day DL would solve that problem.

Edit: Actually, not even. There’s still only 39 on the 40 man since de Jong was removed.

Coming off Tommy John and a 1.5 year layoff, I don't think we can expect #2 production from Big Mike unfortunately.

I was hoping for a 3. Someone we could trust to pitch a play-off game. I didn't expect an 2/3 type for two years at 10M. With Berrios, Gibson, and Odorizzi/Pineda looks to me we have it covered. I've penciled in Romero and Thorpe for next season.
