Article: BREAKING: Harper, Austin, Astudillo Make Opening Day Roster

Recommended Posts

Short lived roster.  Torreyes started today, no Polanco.  And Trevor May came off the practice field in a lot of pain.  Not sure what happened but I saw him holding his right side.  The trainers took him in quickly and he was hurting when he walked past.

Sigh... May can't catch a break.

And neither can the bullpen, apparently. Hopefully something mild and short term.

Hopefully again, Polanco will be ready to go. Rather impressed with what I've seen and read about Torreyes, but we really need Polanco.

My only worry about Hildenberger is that he now has dead arm from overuse or is hampered by some kind of minor but bothersome injury. Those represent the worst case scenarios, but I also think that prior to his meltdown mid-season in 2018, he had been the most trustworthy asset (IMHO) that the Twins had in their bullpen. If he is fully healthy, it is just a matter of getting his mechanics and possibly his mindset back on track.

I just wanted to find a way to keep the guys that were out of options. Its too bad we lost Reed but at least he got moved to a National League team where he can't hurt us unless....., well you know. Also with the pitching depth we do have those guys on the I.L. can come back 100%. If Perez does seize a high leverage bullpen role(and he might!) whats wrong with giving Mejia a shot at the #5 starter. It's gonna be fun to watch!

Oof, hope it was a something he ate.

If May goes down for an extended period of time, perhaps that would be motivation enough to get Kimbrel.

Bump.

It has been 5 hours and I am desperately waiting to hear if something is wrong with Trevor May?! Twitter folks? La Velle? Anyone?

50  or more vs  73. Meh.  Not that big of difference.   Much has been posted here about Molitor's use of the bullpen. About half of Hildenberger's negative value came in the second half of the season when Molitor used him 2 days in a row. So yes Hildenberger should have been used less. Not because he is an awful pitcher, but he was an overused pitcher.

I can't forget that even in his 2 good months last hear, he at one point in that lonely stretch before "overused", gave up 7 runs in a row from inherited runners, losing games for the team and his other teammates and infecting their stats, while his stats remained unblemished and made him look better than he was even then.

Polanco and Gonzales both played yesterday in different minor league games.  Today Kyle Gibson started a AAA game and did good.  I asked him when he was done what had happened to May.  He said he just tightened up and was fine.  One think I learned to day I thought was interesting was the changing of balls.  I was watching the AA game at the time and Louis Thorpe was pitching.  When he took the mound the balls were switched to International League balls, and when he finished the inning the balls were taken out of play and Minor League balls were used.  The ball boy explained to me that AAA uses one ball and everyone lower uses the Minor League balls.  The same thing was happening on the other field where Gibson was pitching.  Supposedly AAA balls and Major League balls are the same.  I had one of each with me and comparing them the International league ball looked bigger to me and a couple of friends.

We could use more beat writers like Halsey.
