Road trip to Detroit June 7-9.

Me, my two sons, and brother-in-law are heading to Detroit for the 3 game series June 7-9.  We definitely want to stay downtown close to the stadium.  Any recommendations on places to stay in the downtown area? (clean, not too spendy, close to bars and restaurants, etc.)

Thanks for any advice you can give us.

I'd suggest using Priceline's express deals and pick downtown Minneapolis for the dates if you're not picky on what hotel you stay at. Usually can get a 3 or more star hotel within walking distance of Target Field for $100-130 or less per night, per room.

That's usually what I do anyway.

Ninja edit. Noticed that it was @ Detroit. Could probably do the same for Detroit, don't know the caliber of hotel you would get though.

Would probably help if I read and comprehended the entire post. Sorry!

I’ll be at the Sunday game after a Saturday night doubleheader in Toledo, which is about 90 minutes away, but I can’t give you many specific insights on Detroit. In general, however, the city has lost a lot of population in recent decades, so it seems like there is a lot of road infrastructure for the number of people. There’s enough parking for football downtown, so getting baseball parking isn’t bad. I’ve been able to park for 10 bucks without having to walk too far.

As a whole, Detroit was a major destination in the northern migration of African-Americans, so the soul food is going to good, but I don’t know any specific places to try.

And interestingly, I see there is a “Joe Muer Seafood” downtown.

We're staying right downtown, and are only about two blocks from Comerica Park.  There should be lots of food/bar options available.  My youngest son lives in Traverse city and will be making the drive down to meet us.  I'm excited to be hanging with my two sons and brother-in-law this weekend. GO TWINS!
