9M a season is what I predicted in my little write-up too.  I don't know how the Denver coaches that are on our staff now felt about him, maybe that crossed him off the board.

At this point, Waynes needs to be dealt and two of the top three picks have got to go to the OL.  That or I hope a trade is in the works.  (A couple decent OL have moved that way for low draft compensation)

I'm guessing Paradis is going to get around the same money we just paid Barr.

3/27 actually...

That's a steal... and another year for us not fixing our OL I guess, and it's probably going to cost some jobs this time.

We had to know this was going to happen.

At the end of the year I wanted Spielman gone. Many posters defended him saying that after last year he'd finally realize the OL needed to be made a priority. As if he was suddenly going to realize something he refused to the last 7 years.

Tigers can't change their stripes, folks. Spielman never has truly committed to making OL a priority, and he never will.

With Kubiak and Dennison on staff I'm guessing the front office isn't looking for what we'd prefer in an offensive lineman? I assume the team will be doing way more zone blocking so they'll be getting the quicker but likely smaller lineman, which usually aren't the big names.

I don't know that I care for that scheme but that's what I assume is happening. I really don't know which free agents are a fit for this team, though I'd feel better if I saw a couple signed already.

And Griffen restructured. 2019 salary goes from 10.5M to 8M. I thought they'd lower it more; this doesn't seem to keep Waynes out of danger.

Though I read somewhere a few days ago that Rudolph's agent said the team hasn't approached them about restructuring his deal. If they haven't, that makes me think he's getting cut no matter what, no way do they pay him 7M next year.

I would have been more comfortable in the $4-6 million range for Griffen. Still seems like a lot considering his situation last season.

Sounds like part of why it was higher was because Barr is only going to count 5M against the cap.  And his deal is structured so that he will be easy to cut the next couple years and the contract only escalates several years down the road.  (With almost none of it guaranteed by that point)

I am worried that we appear to be angling towards drafting another kicker.

I think Zimmer would kill Spielman himself if they drafted a kicker.

Other teams don't seem to have a chronic problem just fishing a usable kicker off of the discard pile in early summer. Obviously the Vikings aren't to be trusted in that department, but they haven't been good drafting youngsters, or signing big names either. Their dumpster dive for Forbaith was probably their best kicking decision this decade.

I guess I'm trying to say, this is the Vikings kicker we're talking about so I'm not going to trust Stephen Gostkowski any more than I'm going to trust Connor Barth

I think the problem is Zimmer.

When every kicker is worse here than they are elsewhere, it's not just bad luck.

I think he treats them different than other players. Have you ever heard Zimmer savage another player the way he did Carlson (great in Oakland, btw) after the GB game?

I think they are playing scared with Zimmer, and that seldom leads to good results.

I was going to blame Preifer, not Zimmer on that one...

Nick Easton (read that right) just got a 4 year, 24M deal.

Woof

I think we all need to hire Nick Easton's agent to represent us. He got his client more money than he should ever get.

How much is guaranteed? Those amounts mean little if they aren't guaranteed.

Those numbers aren't in yet.  I'm not sure it matters in the sense that I bet if we polled everyone here on what it would cost to retain Easton we would've all been WAY off.

I think it matters a lot.

When he's healthy, he's good, and easily worth $6 million. If little is guaranteed, you can get away from it if he's hurt again.

Every year the IOL are too expensive, or not BPA..... I'm guessing it's the Vikings and their one playoff win that are wrong......

At what point does slick Rick get the axe? Spending big money on Barr had to be partly Zimmer... so he join him as far as I'm concerned. Of course, they could put together a fine season and be vindicated... but I see the line as the weakness of this team, again.

This team has zero guards right now. Kind of amazing. I don't know what they're waiting for.

Compton to the Jets. Isadora is the only OG on the roster right now. Is any other team this barren?

Not that I wanted Compton back by any stretch of the imagination... But yes, the cupboards are completely bare here.

Supposedly, we are trying to bring back Trevor Semien... I'm a bit surrpised by that... given all the machinations to keep Sloter off the practice squad, they are basically saying he is not ready to be a backup. Personally, I wouldn't waste cap space on Trevor. Sloter has shown enough in pre-season to make me think he can be a capable backup at this point. He's been on the team for two years now, so... I say save that cash for someone else.
