For me, I'm more comfortable with this team as a Super Bowl contender with Hughes-Rhodes-Alexander-Rookie and two OL in the first two rounds. Or an OL, a CB, and a DT. Some combo of getting three high end players rather than just two and keeping Waynes.

Alexander may want to get paid to start on the outside rather than be a slot corner. And the simple truth is we're running out of money to pay anyone.

If we have to draft a corner (and we do, odd as that may seem), I'd rather have him play immediately and flip one of the guys leaving after this year for another player that we can retain going forward.

Like I said, I don't love that decision. I'd have preferred we did it earlier in the offseason when Waynes' 9M could've been put to use in FA.

I hope we don't have to find out which one of us is right.

I really think that secondary would get torched consistently.

Look at it this way, you basically are saying you would rather trade Waynes for a pick so that we can try to draft 3 high end players rather that 2, right?

Well Waynes is already a high end player. So you don't really net a positive, this year, by trading him. All you get is the opportunity to replace one high end player with another, along with the very real risk that he's replaced with a total dud like Erasmus James or Laquon Treadwell.

Yes, but 3 players on our roster for several years as opposed to one about to go. I think Wayne's is good, but replaceable by Hughes or Alexander.

I don’t want to lose Wayne’s, but I want to lose someone of cap significance because more likely than not, some teams will be parting with useful OL after the draft and I’d like to have the flexibility to get one or two if they’re a fit.

Teams don't dump competent offensive linemen.

At best you're getting Tom Compton.

You're probably right about OL, but there may be other positions that do get cut that would be of use to us.    Last year Suh was released at that time.

There was an interesting article, I think in the ringer, that talked about how really smart teams are building around DBs, not pass rushers. At least in terms of money spent. While I hate that Spielman had not used draft capital on OL, at least he's used it on one of the most important positions.

I'm for sure with you on that. I'm just not sure you'd get much for either of them, whereas Waynes you would.

We would be lucky to get a 5th round pick for Griffen.

Does anyone think Rudolph + 2nd round pick could get the Vikes back in the 1st round? I was thinking they could use that package and float it to Oakland (#27) Green Bay (#30) or New England (#32)

I think NE might do that. Would you do Waynes and Rudolph for NE pick?

I'd probably do one of them + a 2nd (or ideally 3rd) for #32. I guess it also depends who's available then. If there's a lineman they really like and they don't think will be there at #50 I'd make the trade.

I'm all for shipping Rudolph or Griffen to move up, but trading up doesn't tend to be NE's MO, they typically go the other way.

Yup. But at some point, the window closes. And they get two starters for one pick....I doubt it very much, but that was, mostly, not the question

Draft day trades of already rostered players seem fairly rare. I'm all for it and I think it's odd that it doesn't happen more, but I don't know that I see the Vikings as the kind of quick reflexes team that would feel comfortable moving someone on the fly. It would have to be almost entirely premeditated and shaken on with the other team because I can't see Spielman taking a player from Zimmer without lengthy discussion, something draft day probably doesn't typically afford.

Agreed.  If we trade back up it's going to take using a pick next year to do it.

The Waynes dream is dead, we have the picks we have unless we use one from next year to buy into this draft.  (Which I am all for doing)

Happy draft day. Until the dream is dead officially I am still on the TJ Hockenson band wagon.

On sports talk radio down here the hot rumor is Houston aggressively trading up to draft OL. I'm concerned there are so many teams needing OL help picking ahead of Minnesota...

I don't see Detroit passing on Hockenson.

Ironically that's who the sports radio guys think Houston is going to trade with to draft Jonah Williams or Dillard.

For better or worse, I'd guess most of the OL that teams are trading up for, are likely not the same guys the Vikings are targeting.

So all that joking around stuff about Spielman saying that his wife has threatened him if he picks another DB means they're totally taking Greedy Williams right?

I think someone's trading up for Jonah Williams for sure. So IMO hoping he slides to 18 is as big of a pipe dream as Hockenson falling to us.

I'd trade a cb, if Hill was not suspended..... But no way I take a TE in the first. OL or DB or DL.

I'll still trade one. It's 4 games. Hughes is ahead of schedule...

That means you have Hughes, one of Waynes/Rhodes, and Alexander for 3 spots over 4 games. It's worth the risk.

I'd rather Williams fall than Hockenson. just sayin.

I agree. I also really like Hill, once he comes back. The team was down Rhodes a bunch and still held it together much of the time.

I saw one CBS projection where the Vikes trade up into the top 10 to get Jonah Williams.

I might be down for trading up for an elite DL but I just don’t trust Spielman picking OL and wasting that equity. I suppose I need to get over it and just assume Kubiak has taken the reigns.

These NFL teams are crazy taking a QB in the first round every year. The cards selected Rosen 10th%€®© just last year. Compete wasted pick... If Murray flops, they're ****ed. Bosa is as sure of a thing as you can get. Dude will change games immediately.
