Nah, the NFL itself has that completely under control.

No kidding. It's becoming less about the game, and more about drama caused by poorly written rules.

Don't worry, it only took them 5 years to figure out what a catch is. We'll have this all squared away by 2023.

When does it apply to receivers too? Diggs wasn't the same after he was pile driven into the ground 5 yards out of bounds. That hit, was far worse than what happened to Rodgers.

How about the poor defensive players who get crushed all the time for no good reason?  Next time a RB lowers his head, that should be a flag too.  The problem is the inconsistency of enforcement due to position.

I'm sorry, but I'm late to this particular thread and didn't see it until tonight. I'm assuming we are are talking about the flag on Matthews that lead to the eventual Packers tie game.

As a lifelong Vikings fan, I always root for my team and any opportunity to win. But I want it to be within the rules! And even in a full contact sport, I am all onboard with protecting the players. But there was NOTHING wrong with the sack in question. Yes, it gave the Vikings a chance to win the game, which they blew. But in a game yet to be determined, the same flag could be thrown the opposite way. And that's what PO's me.

Bad enough the OL holding has become ridiculous, as has any sort of hand fighting for pass interference, but now you need less than a half step to hit a QB, must hit him between thigh and shoulder pad, and somehow control your tackle to not actually lay your body weight on him, whether you are a 190lb DB or 300lb DL.

It's just ridiculous.

I laughed because I hate the Packers, but I wouldn't have had any problem with people defending Matthews had those same people also pointed out that Kendricks got the same ridiculous and costly penalty a quarter earlier.

There was a lot of 'The Packers got jobbed!' whining whilst excluding the fact that the Vikings did as well.

Also, I think it should be noted that either the officials are pretty much looking the other way on this rule now or defenders have already learned to adapt. I think it's some of both, but the Vikings had 10 sacks last week and I don't believe any penalties regarding tackling the QB and all the sacks looked like they complied with the new rule to me. Which still is lame, but in all actuality looks to have been easily overcome.

I think they've just quietly stopped enforcing it that way.

Though every week it seems like a pass rusher pulls up to avoid a flag to get burned by the QB.  Which is maybe what bothers me more than anything.

It is the Vikings' section and last time I checked neither the Redskins nor Kaepernick have anything to do with the Vikings either...

I guess it goes in the Sports Bar, but it seems like the Vikings section of the forum is a permissible place to have a generalized NFL discussion.

What does this have to do with the Minnesota Twins?

Moderator note: This forum is to talk Vikings AND NFL. It is not Vikings only. Talk of Koepernick and the NFL is permitted here. If you go to the full version or on your desktop, the description of the forum reads “Let's talk about the Minnesota Vikings and NFL football”. Frankly, I’d rather this forum be titled simply “Football” and have ALL football talk here from prep to pro and everything in between, and would give leeway to those discussions happening in here.

Your opinion. Nobody really knows.

Of course it's my opinion. The NFL is doing everything they can to bury their internal discussions about him for the trial.

Look at some of the recent starting QBs... The Bills have started 3 QBs who are career backups, the 49ers are starting an undrafted rookie, the Bears and Washington both started career backups yesterday.

I'm not sure you can sign a QB and play them four days later, just to hit this from a practical perspective.

The more salient point with Kaepernick is that even if there are 30 better QBs (there are not, FWIW), he's for sure in the top 60.  If Sam Bradford can get paid (hilariously), Kap should've too.  The best explanation for why he's not being paid is collusion.
