well, Huffpost is still calling it a blue wave, so there seems to be some dispute

 

one of those is a site that understands math....

 

And the odds are not as bad in the House as they appear. Their model is, in one of their author's opinions, over stating the change there, as the GOP picks up lean GOP races, even though the Dems have had very few races that lean DEM finish yet.....

....yet Kansas rejected the Republican for the Democrat, and by a wide margin. Politics is local, Mike, at least for this cycle it appears that way.

 

I'm very curious to see if the Dems can win state races.  Too often they've placed all their eggs in national races only to get their ass kicked in local and state elections.

 

It'd be nice to have an election that starts reversing that.

And in Missouri the Democrats lost a Senate seat.......of course it is local, the races are all local (ish) this year. The GOP is going to gain seats, in a year where POTUS is the 2nd least popular ever. How do people see this changing any time soon? If ever?

Well, we knew the Senate map was bad for Dems. Sounds like we'll win the House. I'm honestly ashamed of our country right now. The number of people who are willing to vote for racism is appalling.

 

Sure, but some of you who were more left-leaning had some confidence in taking the Senate a few months back.  I never thought that was all that realistic (and said as much) but things are worse on that front than I thought.  

 

Not only have they not taken the Senate, the Republicans have widened their margin.  That's very disappointing.

I'm not that mad about the Senate - it was a horrific map. There are a lot of republicans who will always be republicans b/c they just don't want to be democrats and states like ND, IN, TX, WV etc were tough states since they are so bright red.

 

But watching the last few weeks of campaigning and seeing the republicans end all pretense and simply go straight into endorsing racism and seeing it work really offends me. If we were better, that wouldn't have worked.

Yeah, the Democratic party has to start being a national party again and not just a coastal/big city party. The 2020 map for Dems isn't that much better. They need to start winning states in fly over country again.

Spot on.  It's depressing to see almost the entire state of MN lit up red on these screens.

 

That is seriously  disheartening.

Well, looking for some positive, even if slight ... the Dems flipped two traditionally Republican House seats in wealthy suburban Chicago. Both campaigned heavily on health care. And one of the two also hit hard on stricter gun control. One flip was one Republicans really didn’t want to lose and it was an upset.

This is a mildly disappointing result. I was hoping for 51-49 Democratic deficit or better than that, now it looks like 55-45. Even more disappointing to me is the governors’ races. Florida, Ohio, Iowa, and probably Wisconsin get away.

 

I’m watching the local race with Feehan vs. Hagedorn, which is a barn burner.

It looks like Walker is going to lose, but could see a recount happening.  FL and GA was disappointing.  I feel like those elections rewarded racist robocallls, fear-mongering and a Secretary of State truly abusing his position to help him steal an election.

 

At least the Democrats did take the House and it sounds like a lot state races went well.  I wanted better results, but there were some positives of the night.

 

Trump is already threatening the Democratic House not to do investigations.    I think he is going to think he did well enough to become even further emboldened.

I don't think this was the result democrats were looking for. The racist, fear mongering message works well for white people. Especially old white people. Looking at Scott polls, millennials voted hard Democrat, just not in the same numbers as old people.

 

Polls slightly underestimated Republican chances again. They must be missing these Trump supporters somehow. Maybe it is the old generation in nursing homes? They seem to be a significant portion of Trump's base.

 

If anything, Democrats should feel good about putting out solid candidates in a bunch of races. Moral victory for that, along with winning back the house to provide oversight on Trump.

 

The game changer in 2020 could be what they new house is able to uncover and what happens with Mueller. There are a handful of Republican held Senate seats up in 2020 that could be in play if it goes South for Trump.

It's a badly needed strategy going into a census election in two years.

They picked up 7 governor seats? That's the kind of progress I asked for a few months ago.....

 

I don't know if the Senate is winnable, until something drastic happens. People have been told since birth that democrats are worse than atheists.....

 

If anything, the nation looks more polarized after this election, not less. With some states hunkering down to be totally blue or red, and few states actually in play.
