Heyman: Predicting the Contracts of 131 Free Agents

I get that. And I don't think we have to worry about the Twins signing him. But given the list that Mike gave, I'll take Machado's antics over any of that. While childish and immature, it doesn't compare to the heinous nature of rape, manslaughter, child abuse/molestation or wife battery. He's still a player with a far better talent than anything we have and think that his immaturity can be tempered. I didn't hear reports of these antics being quite as pronounced when he played for Baltimore, but then maybe they were but just not given quite the attention as playing for the Dodgers has given him.

It could very well be that the right team could get Machado to get over himself. However, I don't think the Twins have the necessary culture, for lack of a better word, for turning someone like Machado around.

So, maybe I'm arguing against signing Machado at least partially because I don't see the team as being a good fit. Well, that and I just didn't like what I saw on the field. :)

There are a lot of good ones this year, some will get much less than expected.

Of course I don't want those guys (looking at you Addison Reed).

That's OK though, I'd be cool if the team budgeted $40M of next year's payroll to relievers. By these projections that'd get you Familia, Ottavino and Robertson with plenty left over.

Robertson on a 2 year (or 2 + option) remains my first choice.

But if we've got plenty left over, let's add Soria as well.

Robertson, Familia, Ottavino, Soria, May, Rogers, Reed + whoever. If five of that seven are healthy at any given time, I could live with that.

Collusion isn't the right word... but yeah... they will again.

You could prove an argument that despite being under-compensated at a shocking level last off-season, the free agents ended up being over-compensated in terms of production based on the results of 2018.

A couple paid off... most did not.

I guess that means that they were not being under-compensated at a shocking level, and the predictions that were made were just terribly wrong. Dozier will feel it this off season. The sad thing to me is, that when the plaayers immensely out perform their contracts, the Team never gives them a voluntary bonus for it. If the world worked better, that would happen just because it would be right.

There has also never been a case of a player saying "I did not earn even remotely close to what you paid me so I am giving back X millions of dollars."
