Is there anyone left worth a damn in the next free agency class?

Xander Bogaerts, Anthony Rendon and Gerrit Cole will all probably get paid well if they reach free agency, but I'd bet at least two of them also sign extensions.

It's paramount that this team starts developing their own super star players.

That will be the excuse next year, there just aren't any good ones.....which is why waiting for the perfect moment to add talent is BS. It might not be there......add it while you can.

If Cruz, Gonzalez, Lynn, Santana, Hughes, Nolasco level free agents don't float your boat, then I don't think it's an excuse. This list is awful.

Sounds like Goldschmidt and Sale can already be crossed off. Outside of Bogearts, Rendon and Cole, all of whom have had rumored extension talks, there's not a player left who would be considered a significant signing at least no more so than what the Twins annually do.

There were a few last year, and a few this year that were good/great. The Twins signed Cruz and a bunch of bargains. You're right, they have to do a much better job of development, because they aren't winning any bids for great players, apparently, since they just won't be many most years.

And, yes, that's kind of my point. If there is a one, you better be trying very hard to get him. Because supply is limited.

I don't think this just applies to the Twins, any team that wants to compete is going to need to develop their own stars or try and trade for them (whether that be acquiring prospects or trading prospects for a proven player).

Wow, that's quite the team friendly extension! Hopefully the Twins can develop the prospects they got for him and make it a worthwhile trade... but it's looking like a great move for the Astros.

The most expensive extension for a non closer relief pitcher  is considered a team friendly deal?

Really, it is? The way Pressly was pitching, he's worth way more than $17.5M over 2 years. For me there isn't much of a difference between being paid as the closer and being paid to throw high leverage innings.

27 outs in a game. Somebody has to pitch the ball well enough to get them

Mental aspects of the game. Ron Davis did great as a set up pitcher. While the closer might not have the hardest batters, there is something about getting the last batters.

Hmm, wonder if they would move on from Posey?

I wouldn't read too much into it. Kratz is 38 years old, Murphy was maybe too interesting to pass up (and they claimed him from a division rival).

They're probably just stockpiling a bit right now, with an eye toward sorting them out later and getting Posey plenty of time at 1B too.

Doesn't sound like it will be an excuse. Also, we added plenty of talent. Don't confuse free agency with Christmas.

Pressly had 1 good year. Last year at this time we had members who wanted to DFA both him and Gibson. No way he'll perform through that deal and no way we would have extended him based solely on his career year.

Those people would have been nuts last year. Pressly was one of the best relievers on the team as it surged to the playoffs in the second half of 2017. His 2018 performance wasn't a big surprise to those who saw some of the things happening with his improved whiff rate and spin rate on his pitches as the 2017 season carried on.

Sounds exactly like Christmas, the rich kids usually get the best toys unless the parents of the middle class kids stray out of their comfort zone a bit. Which many do, just not ours.

Can you point us to the posts of members wanting to DFA both Pressly and Gibson?
