I can't make heads or tails of this trade. Wasn't TB high on their young 1B Bauers like just a week ago? It looks like they traded him for Willians Austudillo and Jake Reed and they had to fork over $5M to boot? That can't be right.

I think the reporting is off. I wonder if Encarnacion is actually going to TB also, which would end up meaning Seattle is trading Santana for a comp pick and $1M in salary relief. That sounds a bit more plausible.

Wait, so the Rays are going to get Encarnacion and said goodbye to Bauers? Weird. I'm not even sure if Encarnacion is going to be much of an upgrade from Cron as his OPS fell to .810 last season and he'll be 36 next year.

Meanwhile, the Indians get Santana back and acquire Bauers, but also lose prospect Yandy Diaz. I can't tell if this is much of a win for them, as Diaz seems like a higher quality prospect than Bauers is/was.

I don’t know, Diaz is already 27, his calling card looks to be his hit tool with some dubious versatility but next to no power. Someone will have to provide a decent argument to help me see how he isn’t just Willians Ausudillo but with more fanfare because he’s on a winning team.

Bauers was a top 100 prospect just last spring.

No. Encarcion goes to Seattle.....and they traded Bauers for other stuff, and to open a spot for a certain someone, I'd guess.....

Didn't see this mentioned yet...

Joe Kelly to the Dodgers 3/$25

Relievers aren't cheap either. Good ones that is.

When he's on, he's on. He drives his team's fans nuts too many times though.

You are correct, but the reports are indicating Encarnacion will be traded to the Rays soon.

Having Encarnacion on the Rays squad would likely stop a Cruz signing, right? If that one rumor is true, than Cruz is probably going to be a Twin soon.

Diaz never had the prospect ranking of Bauers (as high as #45 with BA last year), never ranking once in a top 100 list while Bauers did in two seasons for BA and MLB Pipeline.

Bauers also is a solid defensive outfielder while he always seemed to be tripping over his own feet at first, so the Indians may have just filled two lineup holes by trading Encarnacion.

The Indians are trading Yonder Alonso to the White Sox for prospect Alex Call. So it seems the Indians are swapping out Encarnacion and Alonso for Bauers and Santana.

If so, they've improved tremendously defensively and with the ability to take a walk with both. However, it still leaves at least two holes in the outfield, depending on how confident you are in Bradley Zimmer in center.

Rumors are saying the Astros might go after Cruz now... so it might be between Houston and Minnesota now.

Also, the Nationals are signing Matt Adams on a one year $4M deal.

I don't really buy that the Twins are in on Cruz....it would really surprise me should we sign him.

I agree that we probably won't sign him... but my guess is that they've offered him a one year deal and he's probably looking for more.

The only reason he would take one year deal with the twins would be is he figuring that we either win and make a playoff spot or if we are not contending the Twins will trade him to a contender next July. In doing this he would need extra money to sign with the twins. But my guess is that we don't sign him and he is signed by Astro's all we were to the deal was to raise anti up on his deal with the Astro's.

If we offer the best deal, he may take it.  He may realize that if we fall out of contention, he'll likely be traded to a contender.  (Still don't see him signing with us)

The 50-50 odds that Ramos will stay healthy?

Very true, I'd want another C on the roster I liked. But, even if he only plays 80 games, that's probably more valuable than the next best catcher playing all those games (or, more likely, the 3rd or 4th best catcher on the roster).
