Twins Have Zero Gold Glove Finalists

Rawlings announced its finalists for the Gold Glove Awards, unveiling three players at each position. The Twins ended up with ... nobody.

Joe Mauer will probably viewed across Twins Territory as a snub, but while he was great again at first, he only made 85 starts there this season. I think the guys with the strongest cases were actually Kyle Gibson, Jose Berrios, Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario.

Here's a link to the full list of finalists.

Thanks for sharing this.  I know that fielding has been going through a variety of reexaminations.  Who does the best evaluation?  I am also curious how the new shifts factor into this equation.  It is not surprising to see the Twins not in the list, but it does emphasize something we do not talk about enough - are the Twins thinking about defense enough?

Rafael Palmeiro WON a gold glove in 1999 despite making just 28 appearances at first base.

And, for me, that was the day the gold glove award stopped being something I gave a you know what about.

The selection process was altered in recent years to include a statistical element, the SABR Defensive Index. That seems to have helped avoid embarrassments like the Palmeiro, though the Fielding Bible awards still seem to be far ahead in terms of a statistical analysis standpoint.
