Article: Miguel Sano Detained In Dominican Republic

Recommended Posts

Yes, and most cars have windshields as well, yet somehow that doesn't stop people from crashing into things.

And yet somehow a member of the police winding up with a routine broken leg as an outcome of an apparent check on a missing license plate or driver's license made the news. Nothing to see here, folks. Curiosity about how one even backs into a police motorcycle sufficiently to apparently pin the rider hard is misplaced; all in a day's work for a traffic cop.

Baghdad Bob seems to have found a new gig as police chief in the Caribbean.

I was out until 3am with my future wife in my mid 20s too. Didn't make me as awful a person as some of you jumped to in this thread.

Other things might make me awful, but not that in and of itself.

Sano would be wise to avoid any 'situations' at this juncture of his career.  Being at Da Club at 3am doesn't appear to be the best choice.

And as it relates to the perception of his character and professionalism, I think Sano is beyond the threshold of 'that in and of itself,' isn't he?

Sure, which is why it was wise to wait and see.  It could have been a major indictment of him.

Or it could be an accident.  I think it's telling how many people rushed to think the worst when all they had to do was wait about 10 hours to get the full story.  In the meantime he was suggested to have bribed the police, willfully ran over the cop (because how could anyone do this accidentally with a backup camera!), was out at 3 am with his entourage, etc.

Sounds like he drove the cop to the hospital, paid all his bills, and tried to do his best to make amends.

What a monster!

I don’t think we know the full story yet. I’m not at all convinced the second story is the “truth,” any more than the first reports.

I guess it’s possible a person can back over a police officer at 3 AM outside a club, in an unlicensed vehicle, and it be entirely an accident.

But I’m skeptical.

That's fair, there absolutely could be more to it. I leave the door open to be highly critical of Sano should more come to light.

As sketchy as all those details are, he was with his wife, in the DR (where having an unlicensed vehicle or being out at 3am or any number of things could be MUCH different than our assumptions), and the police released him without charges.

Looks to me like are making much assumptions as well.  If someone says he ends up in "situations" because he isn't using good discretion how is that off base?  Going out until 3AM leaves ANYONE wide open for a lot of things to happen.  Whether it is an accident or not he takes responsibility for it.

Apparently the officer was friends with Sano from school.  How do we know the initial reports to reflect reality better?  How do we know Sano didn't broker a deal with his officer friend?  It all seems fishy and I rather doubt he was 100% sober at 3AM leaving a club.

Sano does silly things.  If he gets judged for it then OH WELL.

I'll be honest. I don't care what happened. He wasn't charged and that's all that matters. If he comes to spring training in shape and ready to work, then he has done his job.

Get all fussy and cut a guy like this and I will bet it's about 99% certain that some team with their crap together signs him and turns him into the stud hitter we all know he can be.

In general, we can not continue to operate out of fear that someone else will pick up X player and turn them into a stud. It's not healthy for an organization and results in keeping players that will never really contribute for the team.

I love how a guy (in his 20's) being out until 3am is such a nefarious thing. Good lord, people in Europe and many other parts of the world don't even get started until about 2:00am. The DR isn't a whole lot different.

3:00am might be viewed as some ungodly hour in North America, a time where only trouble can occur, but it's not everywhere.

Sano may have done something colossally stupid, but just because it was 3:00am doesn't necessarily make it more likely.

I used to go to work often at 3 am. Talk about colossally stupid. But, it was a good time to see the kids when they came wondering home. :)

Well, he was with a key troublemaker in his entourage.  Once you add your wife it's nothing but shenanigans of the highest order.

Geeeez, you guys ... you went from not acknowledging Sano's wife was even with him to making it her fault. I'm watching you so watch your steps! :)

I'm pretty sure eyewitnesses had Daniela Sanó saying to hubby Miguel, "are you going to let a parking ticket police officer talk to you like that?" before he put his vehicle in reverse.

/ Do I have to put a smiley face here? OK, here it is: :)

We're all secretly blaming our wives here because doing so with anonymity on a sports page is our only outlet.

(In case my wife reads this.....I love you hunny.  You're the best.  I was obviously joking about ever being right)

Yeah ... I know who you are and where to find you ... so your anonymity is lost on me. So ... back to my initial retort ... I'm watching! ;)

I was out until 3 AM many nights when I visited Germany. I only remember one guy at the clubs who was out of control drunk and getting into trouble and that was me.

When my wife says that stuff to me the steam coming out of my ears fogs up the windows and I too become a poor driver due to visibility issues.

I remember the first time I visited Barcelona back in the early 90's. We were at this little outdoor bar located in a larger square, probably got there around 10:00pm or so and it was pretty dead. It fascinated me as I sat there over the next few hours as it became increasingly busier and busier. By the time 2:00am rolled around and I was ready to stumble back to my apartment, everyone else was just heading out for the night. I still remember waking up at around 6:30am and hearing people as they staggered home.

People were no doubt coming in to catch the Twins-Sox game on the satellite TV. Time difference, eh?
