Another sickening and humiliating loss. I see now way that the Twins are going to be decent next year -- it seems to me that the losing mentality has sunk in too deep.

They need games like this to hit rock bottom. The ownership has to stop the rationalizing and make the necessary and sweeping changes. This is 2 very bad teams playing, one playing with a purposeful motion, the other going through the motions purposelessly- at home- and nary a boo from the fans. Whose "prospects" look like they care about their future career opportunities?

I liked it a lot better when our biggest complaint was 3-and-out in the playoffs. There were some fun Septembers in the 00's.

Detroit held on to beat the Whities and pull within 1 game, setting up the huge Verlander/Sale showdown tomorrow.

One of those teams will go home at the end of the year, the other will likely get bounced in the first round. But either of those is infinitely better than this abortion of a season.

There is no reason to play Doumit in LF. None. This manager just takes the damn cake. Going through MUCH of this season I was not into the "fire 'em" idea, but now I am. From TR to Gardy and Jim Rantz. They are all showing their true (dumb) colors. My god. Doumit in LF? And the Twins also managed to use SEVEN pitchers tonight in another feat of absurdity. Really . . . from Slama to Parmelee to Dozier to Jeff Gray to playing Doumit in LF to using the bullpen BIZARRELY in sept. of a lost season to the terrible use of the DL vs. "day-to-day" situations . . . it is completely beyond comprehension. ONLY with new ownership would the necessary corrections be made, however.

Doumit has become my least favorite player. Kind of hard to actually become that, but he wins.

Has this guy done anything productive in the last 10 weeks?

How many times has he come to the plate in a situation where he could do several productive things that wouldn't even include having to actually get a hit, and he decides to do the one thing you absolutely cannot do?

It's irritating listening to people include his name in the "middle of the order mash" the Twins have when everyone is cooking. He should never be mentioned. The guy should be playing 2-3 times a week tops and hitting 8th. 300 AB's tops for this guy.

That butchery in left only confirmed what I've felt about this guy for quite some time. The guy is a dud...

It is reallly hard to justify having Butera catching and Doumit in LF when there are 2 other players in the bench that are actually capable of playing the position. I know Doumit catched yesterday, but he is not going to collapse if he does it 2 days in a row. Doumit catching and Carlson or Mastroianni in LF sounds better than Butera catching and Boumit in LF, but what do I know?

I'm not sure why Gardy felt the need to put Doumit in LF. There are so many other options right now with the expanded rosters.

Gardy could have put Doumit at C and a better hitter than Butera in LF if he wanted to put his optimal lineup on the field.

Also... why is Revere back in right field? I get that Gardy wants to reward his veteran guy by giving Span back his position, but there's no reason Revere couldn't be put in left where he's a better fit now that there are other outfield options.... it's not like Revere's future is in right field anyway.

Funny, I was just going to post this and it looks like hindsight.....but there was no reason to play Butera. This means Doumit could have been at C, Revere in LF, and Parmelee in RF to get him some more at bats.

Now there's apparently plenty of reason to play Butera. The Twins just posted tonight's lineup. Butera starts at C again- It's the first "one-catcher" lineup I can remember in recent weeks. Doumit gets a much-deserved night off from his nightmare game yesterday. Revere stays in RF, Mastro in LF.
