I agree with you on the Cook fumble although it was one of those things that happens when you make an incredible play.

1.  The Niners are not a terrible team.

2.  They adjusted well and found a way to use misdirection to their advantage, although some of this was having a young CB in the game and some of it was the fact it was game 1 of the season.  I think other teams will try some of these misdirection and hopefully we will improve defending them.

3.  The offense was ok.  Cousins is a very good quarterback.

4.  I agree that Tom Compton isn't a good enough starter and I predict Aviante Collins will be the starter next week at LG.

5.   There seems to be something in the running game design that isn't working 100% with Dalvin Cook.  Murray looked better running the ball from scrimmage, although I will give the benefit of the doubt to Cook because he is rusty after a long time away with the ACL tear.

6.  I think it is obvious, even a one game sample, that hte Vikings got the better quarterback deal although listening to the pre-game you would not believe that.

Great post.  I see the Niners as a fringe playoff team.  That's why I think this win will age well.

Yeah, Cousins is old news in terms of NFL talkers and Garoppolo is an exciting unknown. Forget about realistic outcomes, everyone gets to project their own fantasies and expetations on the new guy! I didn't see pregame but let me guess, being a bench warmer for years under an all time great QB, people were comparing him to Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers?

You can scratch #4. Collins is out for the season.

As soon as Cook came out of that pile I had a bad feeling he was going to get stripped. If you're a RB who has just escaped a near inescapable spot and then see only green in front of you, I'll bet you let your guard down a tad. Seems to me that happened to AP a dozen or so times.

As for the Packers? I just hate them so much. For a team that has a priortiy list for the last 30 years that looks like this:

1. Have an all time elite QB fall into our laps

2. ???

3. ???

4. ???

5. ???

they have never earned the fortitude to get bailed out time and time again. I don't wish anyone to get hurt, but they deserve to get stung due to their perpetual and intentional lack of contingency and the overall mediocrity of the other 52 players on the team

I disagree that the Packers didn't earn it.

You say he fell into their lap, but they still took him, even though they didn't need a QB at the time. The Vikings passed on him twice.

I don't think getting lucky on a draft pick in the 20s means you earned anything. Even if it wasn't lucky, even if it was incredible draft accumen, that one draft pick doesn't earn them what they've stumbled into. They never put enough focus on a defense that could carry the team and they never focus on pairing Rodgers with elite skill position players that could pick up the slack if he should go down. Their team is a house of cards, it really shouldn't still be standing with the same cross-our-fingers approach after all these years.

Well I'll never agree.

I want my team to win a SB, and I don't really care how they do it. They've cashed in more SB wins during Rodger's tenure than my team has in it's entire history.

Calling it luck just comes off like sour grapes to me.
