Article: Twins Trade Bobby Wilson To Cubs For Old Friend

Recommended Posts

Why not, at least we don't have to see Wilson at the plate anymore. Astudillo is the backup catcher now as far as I can see.

True dat.

Should be counting our blessings, I guess.

As long as MoY doesn't start playing Gimenez as much as he played BWlison.

Here’s a take from a Cubs fan guy at the gym this morning. He said of Gimenez, ‘Good riddance! He’s a real jerk. He screwed up Darvish!’ Um, what??? Apparently Gimenez said some things to the press like Darvish didn’t like getting booed and that put more pressure on him. And he’s really happy to be getting Wilson. He’ll be on the playoff roster as the back up catcher, he doesn’t care about his bat just his good defense.

It appears that Giminez is not on the 40-man roster.  With this move, they have opened up a spot on the 40-man roster.  Is it possible they will be adding someone today or over the weekend?  Another trade?  Someone joining the Twins after the minor league season is over, someone who isn't on the current roster?  Maybe a relief pitcher at Rochester?

While this is true, I believe Giminez will be added and called up this weekend.

I didn't think you could trade players on the D.L.

You can trade players on the DL. You may not be able to request trade waivers on them, but I suspect Wilson already went through those waivers earlier this month:

https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3538

In most cases a player on a disabled list can be traded, even if the player is not eligible to be reinstated and/or healthy enough to play. The one exception is if Trade Assignment Waivers must be secured before the player can be traded. In that case (only), the player must be eligible to be reinstated from the Disabled List AND healthy enough to play before the player can be placed on waivers. Otherwise the disabled player would have to be a "Player to Be Named Later."

Basically, they don't want teams using the DL to help guys clear trade waivers.

I suppose Josh Donaldson was eligible to be activated and is healthy enough to play too, considering he is already on a rehab assignment.

I don't know ... was he still on the active roster in Chicago?

You know what, I didn't even think of that!  I kinda assumed he was just playing every 5th day in Chicago and polishing up his dancing shoes for the World Series. That sounds less likely when I say it out loud....

I thought I had read he was sent down ... but now I'm not sure. I think he was on their active roster.

That's what I thought. Even more funny that the guy I talk baseball with at the gym (huge Cubs fan) said that Gimenez screwed up Darvish ... still find that so odd.
