Article: DET 4, MIN 2: Stewart Debuts, Bats Slump in Loss

Recommended Posts

I was thinking that an important piece of Stewart not being added to the 40 man last year means that he will likely have all his option years left heading into next year.

That only matters if he turns out to need all three, in which case it doesn't matter. :)

Who's joyful on this site about Stewart? I don't read that anywhere.....

but, given that he went unclaimed last year by every team....him showing that maybe (maybe) he will work somehow in the majors is an improvement. So, count me in the hopeful, but doubting, group.

Thad Levine talked about Stewart on Doogie’s show and mentioned his improvement this past year, saying that not getting added to the 40-man and then going unselected really lit a fire under him, not that he hasn’t worked hard, but he really did this past year.

Could matter and matter for several different reasons. not sure and too lazy to check but Gibson seems like he needed all three. If he is eventually shifted to the pen, it could matter. Cheap, serviceable, and optionable can be quite valuable whether he's a starter or reliever.

Of course it would be great if it didn't matter because he's just plain effective on the 25 man roster.

Oh, I suppose. But the Gibson saga has been painful to go through. Now that Gibby seems to have "arrived", maybe it was worth it, but it sure required a lot of losses along the way to get here. We can't afford that in every part of the building cycle.

If I knew in advance that this would be Kohl's career arc too, I might be inclined to allow some other bottom-feeder franchise to "win" his services.

Yep, this. The Twins can't afford to roll out a 5.10 ERA starter for multiple seasons in hopes he figures it out. That time is over. It's time to compete. They tried (and failed) to do that this season but got decent returns on all those expiring contracts as a consolation prize. Try again this offseason.
