Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's

Recommended Posts

Both the arrows and the tilted cap are tributes to his late father. I find it rather admirable that he does the tributes regardless of what anyone else thinks. But yeah, on the surface it can seem unsportsman like and I get why many find it irritating lol.

Yeah, and when I go out on the town whoring and drink too much, it's a tribute to a college friend who lived hard and died young.

But, then again, I don't throw 94 with a quality change-up.  Especially not at 41.  And, I can't drink like I did at 31.

So, I get it, and Fernando has been shooting arrows into dome roofs for more years than I have hairs on my head.  While the save situation has collapsed, the sky never has.

God Bless him.

And, I hope the Twins rough him up soon.

Huh... I thought they'd hold on to him and use his option, but I'm fine that they'd didn't. I'm interested to see who'll get the opportunity to close games... Hildy and Reed would probably be the top options but I don't think they should at the moment. Let's get an arm from AAA and figure things out from there.

Don't forget- we still have Belisle!!

Duffey is getting called back up to take Rodney's spot. It's possible it's going to be Tyler's last hurrah on the roster unless he looks better this time around.

Also reading that Austin is coming up, but the corresponding move hasn't been made.

I've seen enough of Duffey.

Hey folks, long time lurker, finally joining the party. Of all of the trades, this is probably the one that I'm most indifferent about. Rodney is not part of the future, so I don't mind cutting the cord.

I'm all for adding pitching depth. We're adding bodies and sooner or later, we're going to hit on a guy or two. That said... out of all of the moves being made, can somebody explain to me why we're not taking a flier on a catcher? It seems to me like that's the weakest position in the organization. If we're adding bodies and taking fliers, why aren't we doing it there? We're a Garver injury from a Wilson/Astudillo experience. Now that we're in full on lost season mode, I feel like I can say that last part out loud.

I'm a little surprised.

I thought they would pick up the option and Rodney would be back.

We are going to need a big quantity of players next year.

Looks like the Twins are all in in Kimbrel next yer, they have plenty of money for it.

You would think if trading Rodney was part of the plan, they would have gotten a better return prior to the deadline. Considering his salary and that he has not been ineffective, someone was going to claim him and limit your trade options.

This is fair. And this return doesn't seem like the kind to make us change our mind about whether to keep him either. So that seems to suggest we were strongly thinking about moving him anyway.

One problem is the surgery. He won't be back until when, mid season? Drafted in 2015, we will need to add him to the 40-man following next year. That doesn't give the Twins a lot of time to judge whether he is deserving.

Well, he doesn't "have" to be added to the 40-man. He will just be available for selection in the Rule 5 draft if we don't. But his profile and resume doesn't suggest he would be selected in Rule 5.

If he's not selected in Rule 5, he won't be eligible for minor league free agency any earlier than the end of the 2021 season. So we should have plenty of time to evaluate him and work with him.

Not sure how many walk offs Rodney gave up this season, but more than enough.

Only two, by my count. Opening Day stuck in our minds of course. It happened again in April against the Yankees.

And then, amazingly (I would have bet the wrong way also), never again.

For almost two months, May 2 through June 28, a stretch of 19 games, he was involved in only winning efforts. July, nearly so. August, nearly so.

Yes, a closer's usage pattern has a lot to do with it. Yes, he blew saves, and we remember them painfully. But, it usually wasn't Rodney trudging off the field while the other team mobbed their guy at home plate.

Incredibly. :)
