Article: Will Brian Dozier Get Traded?

Recommended Posts

Peripherally, BD has been the person loudest about the deadline moves made by the F.O., both last year and this.    He needn't look farther than his own performance as a legitimate reason why the players and friends have been traded, though the vagaries of baseball don't mean that it is any more his fault than Miguel's or Jorge's or Byron's.

My sense, however, from a leverage standpoint is that it would be better for the Twins to deal him for a couple of mid-teens prospects (or worse), to reflect on the entire league's estimation of his value.    So rather than sign him for a Q.O. (which he doesn't deserve based on performance, and is very unlikely to receive on an AAV basis, in any set of circumstances, especially with draft compensation connected), they could desire to sign him to the short-term deal, but with reduced expectations on his part.    I personally (despite the digs) believe that B.D. would be a solid member of the team for the next couple of years - especially after following Rochester's offense all year on this site.    You trade him - what is your Plan B?    Is there a better candidate to rebound at a reasonable cost than him?

Interesting take on ESPN.com today:

Still, as one observer said of Dozier, "He's going to get traded.'' Maybe a team that's already traded for an infielder decides to double-dip, or another club without a perfect positional fit finds a way to get Dozier in the lineup. There's a strong sense that he'll be wearing a different uniform by Wednesday.

Dozier should stay. The Twins aren't that far out of the Central. Any chance of doing well involves:

a.) Dozier going nuclear

b.) Sano being competent

c.) Bullpen piecing it together

d.) Young starters being okay

They'd have to do well in nine games vs. Cleveland but in baseball anything is possible. It's not crazy to see the Twins going nuts and making a run. And it would be hilarious.

Kinsler is having the better season now (particularly with defensive metrics), and he only fetched 2 AAA relievers. And the Angels ate some salary too.

I agree, the Twins might as well hold on to Dozier now.

Maybe the Twins had the same offer of 25 and 26 year old AAA relievers on the 40. There might be a little disappointment that they did not take this deal if Dozier is not moved but I would have waited seeking a younger player with upside not on the 40.

Doubt we need more marginal AAA relievers in their mid-20s. I'd have held out for the younger guy with upside too.

Though you could be right: this could be Dozier's [lack of] value.

I would be happy with a modest amount of International Bonus Pool money in return.

BTW ... The only player that has been traded who had any influence on our ability to compete in the future was Pressly. One year of a decent reliever. That's the net impact. The cries of future doom have no foundation. If you want to be mad about missed opportunity, be mad the previous regime took Gordon instead of Nola or Jay instead of Benintendi.

I like this move because I did not want to see Dozier playing on a QO, and I was afraid that was going to happen. He had a good run here in Minnesota and I wish him the best of luck. Forsythe should, and will I assume, finish out the year as the second basemen. However, I wonder what we do with the position this off-season. Raley seems to have good work ethic which is good, but doesn't seem to be above average in the outfield, and doesn't hit for enough power at 1st. Maybe Twins can add something. The pitcher is said to be funky, and will probably be a LOOGY. Interesting deal. Thank you Brian.
