Recommended Posts

Friday was a very busy day in the Twins organization. Not only did the big league club and all of its affiliates were scheduled to play, but the Twins brought in five new prospects to the organization. A way was found to keep Alex Kirilloff from accumulating a multi-hit game. Miguel Sano was called back up to the Twins. Byron Buxton was activated from the Red Wings DL. And hey, is there anything more fun to watch than an extra innings, walkoff walk?In case you missed it. Here is a story on Miracle RHP (And Minnesota native) Adam Bray.

Keep reading to find out more on the night in the Twins minor league system on Friday. As always, please feel free to discuss and ask questions.

It may be an interesting few days of transactions for the Twins and as interesting will be to see how the rosters shape out.

  • Infielder Eduardo Escobar was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor leaguers RHP Jhoan Duran, OF Ernie De La Trinidad and OF Gabriel Maciel. Per MLB Pipeline, Maciel was the Diamondbacks #11 prospect with Duran at #19. Per Baseball America, Jhoan Duran was the Diamondbacks #10 prospect. All three players were playing for Kane County in the Midwest League.
  • After their 4-3 loss to Boston on Friday night, the Twins traded RH RP Ryan Pressly to the Houston Astros in exchange for RHP Jorge Alcala and CF Gilberto Celestino. MLB Pipeline ranked Alcala #10 and Celestino #15 among Astros prospects.

Box Score

This was a nice all-around game for the Lookouts. A little offense and some terrific pitching. It all starts with pitching, so that’s where we’ll start. Cody Stashak struck out the side in the eighth inning. Ryne Harper gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Brent Rooker kept his power streak rolling. He went 2-for-4 and hit his 20th home run of the season. Alex Perez drove in two runs with his eighth double.

MIRACLE MATTERS

Ft. Myers , Daytona

Box Score

The only way to keep Alex Kirilloff from a multi-hit game is to involve Mother Nature who provided some rain which postponed this game.

Another great start for Thorpe! I have to wonder if it’s time to promote Thorpe to AAA? I mean if you look at some of the raw data it looks underwhelming, a 3.61 ERA, and giving up 98 hits in 97.1 innings (with 12 homers). But if you look past May, Thorpe’s numbers improve dramatically. His ERA in the month of July is 2.05, and his WHIP in his last 10 starts is 0.93. Something tells me it’s all coming together for Thorpe, and for the season thus far he has struck out 118 in 97.1 innings with only 25 walks. I think now might be a good time to move him up as it gets his feet wet in AAA and possibly makes him more available for our rotation next year (especially if May, Gonsalves, and Littell can’t hold down the 5th spot in the rotation next year).

Bailey wasn’t pulled due to injury, right? I mean as of late he’s been one of the better surprises in our minor league system so it would stink if he got injured.

Shocked - no one claimed Taylor Motter for their pennant run!  I hope that when the dust settles the team can reconfigure the prospect list with these new additions to the system.  I am curious where they will fit in comparison to our current prospects.

One last question - what did Sano do to earn the call up?

Akil Baddoo led the offense. He went 3-for-3 with two walks and stole his 20th base.

Stolen bases! What a wacky concept! Personally, I find it refreshing, not to mention  exciting, that minor league players like Baddoo are still allowed to steal bases during these strangely changing baseball times. Good for him.

Isn't it great seeing Buxton back on a baseball field.  Hopefully, he can get back up here in ten days or a couple weeks.  Gotta get he and Sano ready for 2019.

Is going to be interesting, Seth, to see where all these new guys fit into the organization.  And with three new outfielders, who will lose playing time? Considering the way he has been playing the last month or two, doubt it will be Baddoo.

And I'll second everything FormerMinnasotan said about Thorpe.  Is it possible he stays in Chattanooga for another month, then gets a call up to the Twins for September?  After all he is on the 40-man.  Work a few games out of the bullpen and maybe make a start or two?  Would be great exposure for when he comes up to stay next April or spring.

And thanks for adding Miranda to the prospect summary.  Will be back in the morning to read about today's games.  Should be an exciting day with Graterol and Enlow both on the mound.

What kind of moves will be forced in the minors, especially three potential starting outfielders who neded to be plugged into the low minors. Will the Twins start cutting some folks alredy on rosters? And with the potential of more to come?

Sano NOW needs to produce, and by playing third base.

Motter stays at Rochester. Okay, fine. but, again, here was a strange move by the Twins. You were, in all matters, moving infielders. So, when you bring back Santana...you keep Belisle? Of course, Belisle will be the closer if the Twins move Rodney, right? Instead of auditioning people in the organization for the long haul.

ANy news on where Felix Jorge is hanging out?

No doubt that if Taylor Motter was available on the waiver wire when Manny Machado was still out there it would have been a tough choice, right?!
