Article: REPORT: Twins to Trade Eduardo Escobar to Arizona

Recommended Posts

As long as they started with Escobar, I say you might as well go all in with the blow up.

I had the thought that if its only Lynn, Rodney, Duke, etc. than Twins are keeping the core intact just in case we get hot, but also trying to open up time for youngsters too.

But you start by getting rid of a core guy like Escobar, and I hope they go all the way with it.  Get creative and allow the entire 40 man to re-shuffle.

I do pause a bit on Gibson given we have needed pitching for so many years, but I won't be heartbroken either.

Agree - Escobar was a fun player to watch and root for and was key player to our team this year.   Please also ship out or cut Dozier, Morrison, Lynn, Rodney and Duke.   As far as whether this is a good trade or not - who knows.  The odds of us doing anything this year were extremely low - the 3 players we got back are all in the low minors and not in Arizona's top 10 prospects.   A pitcher with good K rate so may have some potential,  an older outfielder who has a good batting eye,   a young outfielder who can run and also has a good batting eye so at least that is encouraging.   Good question on who plays 3B now - do we bring up Sano or Astrudillo?

This is practically my dream trade scenario for Esco.  Duran is a nice get and factors in nicely with Balazovic, Enlow, and others young guys coming up for wave 2.  He has big fastball, and the curve this organization likes.  Young for A ball but a nice arm to dream on.

We don't have a ton of great center field talent so Maciel is a nice get.  Only 19 in A ball and the OBP is nice but the OPS is a little light.  Pretty young so he has time to change that.

Don't know any thing about De La Trinidad but seems like a guy with decent upside.

I think this is a very good deal for a rental.  Just Duran alone is a worthy trade getting the other pieces is gravy.  Nice job FO.

I had really hoped they'd keep Escobar. But the return looks pretty good for 2 month of Escobar. None of them will need to be rule 5 protected. All are 22 or younger, MLB claims Duran has a #3 starter  ceiling,  Maciel has + speed and fielding and De La Trinidad has the offensive stats. Eduardo may be the 1st call the twins make once the free agent market open.

This makes me very sad. I get it's a business and this is how things go. But this makes me very, very sad.

And if TD would let me, I'd have a dozen more crying emoticons.

Escobar was my favorite Twin player - I hope we bring him back next year but doesn't seem likely or we would have resigned him earlier.

Minor league players for guys that can and does well in the Big is always a gamble.  The Yanks trade their minor leagues for Big league talent all the time.  Do you want to win now or chance it for later.  I'm getting a little tired of waiting.  Sorry but the F.O. failed us this year.

the yankees literally built their system up by trading Chapman, while being over .500 a couple years ago. They sold high, and got good players.......

Prospect ranking for guys this age are deceiving.  Miranda, Balazovic, and Moran are low on our list but do you think they will they will stay that low as they mature?  Severino was barley top 30 last year and now rates 17 in our system.  A lot of what the Twins got is based on projection not where they are right now.  Also getting guys further along might have had rule V consequences or needing to find a 40 man spot.  You can't just go totally off rankings with younger players.  Mark my words Duran is a good get in and of himself.

I could not be more disappointed in this move.

Not only a very iffy return, but I hate throwing in the towel. Hate it. Don't care about playoff odds, or any of that hoohah.

this is a fair take. I prefer to think that, while they just lost depth, they have not yet thrown in the towel....as Adrianza (sp?) can play 3B until Sano returns.

I understand your frustration. I like that they sold high on a guy for a change.

I don't know what people were expecting for a utility INF for 2 months of rent......

I'm not following, Mike.

That simply isn't true........as FG says in their writeup, might have been a first round pick next year with numbers/stuff like this.

I hope you are right - I'll check into the FG reports right now I am going on other internet reports and write ups I have scoured on each of them. ie: fourth OF at best who will never hit MLB pitching, possible mid-rotation starter but likely back of bullpen power arm, and decent bat - but years away. I seriously thought that the Twins saw themselves targeting 2019 to compete for the division, this deal screams we don't think we have a chance next year either. The bigger question is wil the team punt on Gibby. If they do we know that we are heading down the complete rebuild rabbit hole.

I understand people's frustrations.....but I don't think trading Escobar signals anything about 2019 at all. He was a FA to be, and they can try to re-sign him in the off season.

I'm not even sure this is completely defeating for this year, since they have Sano coming back to play 3B soon.
