July 25, 2020 Roster Projections

Recommended Posts

It's July 25, 2018.  The Twins likelihood of making any sort of playoff push here is basically nil. However, the boys in the minors have been making noise and making names for themselves within the Twins Daily community as well as nationally.

I thought now would be a good time to have some fun and make projections on what the Twins roster will look like 2 years from today on July 25, 2020.

To make this fun lets say you can use anyone currently in the system (Includes Dozier and Escobar), and 1 player you think they could add either via trade or Free Agency.

C - Ramos (Free Agent)

1B - Rooker

2B - Polanco

3B - Sano

SS - Lewis

LF - Rosario

CF - Buxton

RF - Kiriloff

DH - Mauer

SP1 - Berrios

SP2 - Romero

SP3 - Gibson

SP4 - Gonsalves

SP5 - Trevor May

Bench - Nick Gordon

Bench - Max Kepler

Bench - Luis Arreaz

Bench - Brian Navaretto

Bench - LaMonte Wade

RP - Lewis Thorpe

RP - Ryan Pressly

RP - Kohl Stewart

RP - Trevor Hildenberg

RP - Alan Buzenitz

RP - Tyler Jay

RP - Taylor Rogers

I was going to make comments on each of these but I got lazy.  Only 1 Free Agent made this tricky but made me get creative, especially with the pitching staff.

What? No love for Belisle?

He'd save your life if he had the chance (and if saving your life somehow involved stranding inherited runners).

I assume they will get him back at the trade deadline in 2020, after he  pitches 3 shutout innings against the Twins in an early July game that year after being signed off the street by the Marlins 3 weeks earlier.

1 FA/Trade makes it crazy unrealistic, but a couple of notes:

I think Royce might not be up here in 2020, but he'll at the very least be banging on the door. They seem content to let him progress slowly, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays a little too long in AA and AAA.

I think Larnach has more potential to end up at DH than Mauer in 2020, Mauer should be long gone by then. He's a college bat that in theory should move through the system quickly and be up for the 2020 season if he's as good as he has been so far.

Fun thought, I'm really excited about the system we have now and eager to add to it in the next week!

Lewis isn't moving slowly at all. He is right on pace with Bogaerts and Correa. He's moving faster than Lindor, Rogers, Seager, Russell, Crawford, Arcia and Torres did. Bogaerts and Correa got called up at 20 years old. If Royce gets a September call up next season he will be on their pace and looking to play full time in 2020 at 21 years old.

I'll get it a go like this

C - Sean Murphy (Trade deadline acquisition 7/18)

1B - Sano

2B - Gordon

3B - Polanco

SS - Lewis

LF - Rosario

CF - Buxton

RF - Kiriloff

DH - Rooker

SP1 - Berrios

SP2 - Romero

SP3 - Gibson (bending the rules as he was signed as FA Winter 2019 after being traded in deal for Murphy)

SP4 - Gonsalves

SP5 - Lewis Thorpe

Bench - Mauer (retirement tour year)

Bench - Eduardo Escobar

Bench - Brian Navaretto

Bench - LaMonte Wade

BULLPEN will not be made up of only homegrown talent but seeing how I already bent the rules...

RP - Zach Littell

RP - John Curtiss

RP - Kohl Stewart

RP - Trevor Hildenberg

RP - Alan Buzenitz

RP - Tyler Jay

RP - Taylor Rogers
