Article: MIL 2, MIN 0: Strikeouts Galore

Recommended Posts

I don't understand the Hate of Vargas. No one is saying he'll lead the team to 90 wins, but WAKE UP and smell the Coffee man, our DH is hitting unders .200 thru July. Time for a change and the old DH (who hit .253 last year with a .758OPS. career stats are about the same) is wasted at AAA. Also, why is Wilson on this team. Garver or Astudillo might not be good catchers, but that's not an issue right now. Likewise I'd like to see Cave playing CF everyday.

Vargas hasn't been good in AAA this year. He batted .173 with a .503 OPS in June. His yearly stats have been mentioned before. That's who we need to call up?

Look, I'm all for getting rid of Morrison. Suggesting Vargas will do any better is far fetched.

How players play seems not to matter.  All this talk earlier in the year about just throwing Buxton out there and giving him at bats because he "isn't going to learn anything at AA" while he hits .150 in the majors was maddening to me.  Don't call up players that are not hitting.  Period.

The problem is, Rochester is a consipiracy of ineptitude offensively

The options are non-existent for help in the lineup... What is going on in Rochester? People that have been in the mix before, or acquired to be considered for the 25 man are ice cold at the plate.

Zack Granite: 204 AB .211/.291/.240 3 (!!) RBI

Cameron Rupp: Striking out 42% of the time in AAA. .529 OPS during his Rochester visit... .886 when he was on Texas' AAA team.

Nick Gordon: 163 AB .233/.254/.331 1 HR 11 RBI in Rochester.

I feel like the Twins might not win another game this season. Being a fan of this team feels like being a blackjack addict getting dealt 16 every hand. Just no real chance at all to win, and even those small number of times you get lucky, the dealer's showing an ace. You play one more hand because maybe THIS time you'll win. Kick yourself, repeat.

Happy 4th!  I'm taking a flight back to Minnesota today, all the way from Guatemala. I'm going to pack my winter jacket - I've got a 4-hour layover inside the Miami Airport, after all.

This is feeling a bit like 2016. Difficult to imagine there are teams who are worse. I think it just feels worse because of the hopefulness that 2017 inspired. Lesson learned.

And yeah, whenever I come to Florida, I always have to pack warm clothing because honestly, setting your AC temp at 58 deg instead of a standard 70-74 is ridiculous, but that’s Florida for you. I’m currently enjoying my parents’ lanai. It’s humid out but the shade, the slight breeze from the ceiling fan and the hypnotic hum of the neighboring AC units make it rather nice, peaceful and relaxing. Safe travels.

I love the game of baseball.  I hate all the strikeouts. Those two are inconsistent and one of those two is going to have to change. By the attendance figures it looks like I'm not the only one who has that same belief. I would rather watch a game with every hitter bunting against the shift than a game with 20 strikeouts and 5-8 HR's.

People watch baseball for the intricacies. There are no intricacies with strikeouts. The days of Whitey Herzog and Tom Kelly are gone and they need to come back if baseball wants to survive against the soccer and lacrosse trends.

I miss the days of piranha ball compared to the modern fishing for Moby Dick.

I was a proponent of trading for Corey Dickerson when the Rays DFA'd him, and he's hitting .301/.336/.448 (.783 OPS) for the Pirates this season. He would have made a nice DH although his power (6 HRs) has been lacking this season. It doesn't look like Morrison/Vargas/Carter are going to be solutions at DH.

I have yet to understand the Kennys Vargas love. He has a .677 OPS at AAA this year. He is simply not very good.

Vargas always seems to do better, at least the initial period, after he is added to the MLB roster. He just seems to lack motivation in the minors. Al least in the past. It would be hard to be worse than Morrison, but I guess that could happen.

The Cubs just designated Chris Gimenez for assignment after 32 at bat. The Twins still let Bobby Wilson to start a game every other game. How many at bats is Bobby Wilson going to get this season with the Twins? That's why this team is losing. No one seems to care including the management. Morrison, Motter and Wilson all should have been DFAd in anywhere else.

Oh, sure, he had that gaudy .143 batting average with the Cubs. But, with the Twins luck, he'd probably go into a slump as soon as they acquired him.

We'd be claiming him to use him as a reliever, of course!      We'll groom him to be our closer for when Rodney goes.
