Something seems terribly off, and it will take something significant to get this back to where it was. They have the talent, but the will or chemistry is missing, in my opinion. There are a couple players on short term contracts I would release immediately, and just make do until replacements arrive. I know that's not the "prudent" thing to do, and the front office won't "waste an investment" or whatever, but this team feels off, and something drastic needs to be done.

Yes, that's a good way to put it, the team is "off."

In closing I will say I am not mad, PO'ed, or disgusted at the year. I am more disappointed. I, probably naively thought this would be a legitimate contender. Not necessarily an Astros level team, but a solid one that could win any day. Sano, Buxton, Berrios, Dozier et al leading the way. The pitching somewhat improved. The reasons it hasn't been, have been beaten to a pulp, but in the end it's just been a disappointment. :(

Upon further thought, this season feels like the logical continuation of the 2016 season. We'd be lauding 2018 as successful thus far if it were followed by 2016... but 2017 somehow happened. This season seems odd because I'd say our starting pitching and bullpen have been "average", which is an upgrade from last year, but the lineup has been plagued by injuries, awful hitting, the return of bad defense, and countless boneheaded and stupid plays. It's bizarre how some of our guys have regressed so sharply between seasons.

You can't win games with this in the lineup:

Dozier since April 24th: .181/.235/.319 (.554 OPS)

Adrianza: .213/.273/.263 (.535 OPS)

Grossman: .231/.294/.352 (.646 OPS)

Buxton: .156/.194/.203 (.397 OPS)

B. Wilson: Career .212/.266/.320 (.586 OPS) and he's 35 now

Bleh. Maybe with more reinforcements over the next month and a half the Twins will improve, but methinks we're a .500 team at best. They'll probably catch fire when we least expect it, but until then, we're not a good baseball team.

Half of this is self-inflicted though. Wilson is playing 3/4 of the games for no good reason, and we're leaving Gordon in AAA to run Adrianza out there every single day. And now with Mauer out, we're going to DH Grossman while Vargas stay in the minors. It's needless handcuffing.

Molly said that Wilson will be playing 50% of the games, and thus far he seems to be committing to that [bad] plan. Oh, and Gordon's still at AA for some reason. I guess hitting .906 OPS isn't good enough to even get to AAA.

At this point, Sano will be back soon, so it's probably too late to call up Gordon. By the way, why isn't Petit playing more often for Adrianza? Petit may be limited to singles and walks but at least he can do that while Adrianza rarely gets on base.
