Article: MIN 5, CHW 3: Rosario Lifts Twins to Third Straight Victory

That's fair. All the wins count.

It's just... for me... this team has playoff aspirations. When they get to the post-season, the opponents won't hand them gifts like the White Sox just got done doing. If they are fortunate enough to get there, doing it this way will likely mean a one-and-done.

I'll feel better when they clobber the bottom feeders, and reserve the squeaker wins for against the good teams. Even better will be when the good teams are happy to get the squeaker win.

Normally I would find myself in this same spot.  But man, this team got so discombobulated after losing what, 10 of 11 or whatever it was.  I'm not ready to say a 3 game streak will cure all that's illing the team, but ya gotta start somewhere.  I'm hoping this is a return to competent baseball.  Gotta get back to .500, then start building on that.

Is there any video of the Mauer baserunning thing in the 8th?  I was listening on the radio when it happened but I want to see it.

There is a Tweet embedded into the article that includes video of the play. I know for a lot of people (myself included), Twitter is blocked on their work computer, so nothing shows up in the article in that case.

Embedding the Tweets is the quickest and easiest way for me to include any video clips into these recaps, but if there's a lot of people who aren't able to see them I can try to explore some other options.

so all the fielder had to do there was run toward third base? I mean, he probably gets there before Mauer. Then Mauer has to choose if he tries to get back or not. Good play by Mauer, I think. Bad play by the fielder for sure. IMO.

The fielder screwed up by not even looking at Mauer but Joe put the third baseman in a really bad situation there. The fielder had two options:

1. Chase Joe and maybe get the out (we'll say a breakeven chance of that play going either way).

2. Go to first and allow the run to score.

Obviously, the fielder needs to prevent the run in that situation but Joe was standing exactly where he needed to be to make a really difficult decision for the fielder. I don't know if Joe did it intentionally, but it gave the fielder some pretty lousy options in that situation.

Normally I can see them but this one didn't work for some reason.

Exactly. That was the part that made him annoying. But at least in that fashion, one could understand why a Sox fan could like him. I don't think I would, but certain types of fans might. But yesterday wasn't even that. He really didn't have any enthusiasm for the Sox, and he brought very little attempt to talk about the game.

Crummy as it was watching one game, it must be a real bummer for actual Sox fans (like him or not) to put up with that for 20 games this year, particularly when having Jason Benetti (who I really like, despite him being the Sox guy) for the other 142.

When I heard Hawk was doing the broadcast, I went back and watched/listened to the Sox side of the broadcast yesterday - specifically when Shields lost the no-hitter and the Twins rallied for 3 runs in the 7th.

You are right. He was completely disinterested. There was another old guy in the booth with him, I'm guessing the average age was 75. Hawk was talking about the old days, old players, then ripped on Barry Bonds (?) -- all while the Twins were rallying and the Sox lead was going down the tubes. In the old days he'd be fire and brimstone. But you're right, this time he just continued to talk about himself and his playing days, how he had 109 RBI back in '67, blah blah blah. Mentioning random teammates that nobody's ever heard of.

I guess if I were in the 85-95 year-old demographic, I'd probably have enjoyed it. Not sure how any of the other Sox fans could have found that broadcast entertaining.
