Twins Claim David Hale

Actually, Hale was pretty mediocre in 2014 too. 3.30 ERA, but 4.0 BB/9 and only 4.5 K/9. The bulk of his work was in relief, which came with a .77 game-entering leverage index, which is decidedly mopup duty.

Thanks, now my blind, seething rage on behalf of Aaron has only increased to that of the fire of a thousand suns.

In any case you invested a great deal more effort* looking into David freaking Hale than I will ever be willing to. :)

* "But it was basically no effort at all."

"That's. The. Joke."

The longer the front office is in charge, the less I like their approach. Another old, never actually good, pitcher?

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and conjecture that, when they decided to pull the plug on the Tyler Kinley Experience, they thought about using the open 40-man slot to try and add minor league depth first. Teams have been doing that to us since forever. Withholding judgement until we see what eventual use that 25-man/40-man spot is put to.

Let's remember, the front office had no trouble casting off Tj Chargois who is now in the Dodger Bullpen with a 2.25 ERA. It appears this front office would rather have soft throwing waiver-wire trash instead of a power arm which the organization actually developed.

I think you've nailed it. Very clever of them to disguise their true intentions by consuming a spot on the 25-man roster with a power arm for several months while they did their dirty work of swapping Chargois for a no-name. :)

Go look at the list of players the FO has added the last two years, at the MLB level. Let me know if your faith is up or down after that....or don't, you may not like the experience much.

Withholding judgement >> giving a pass >> actively applauding.

Sheesh, I've already posted more in a David freaking Hale thread than I ever imagined possible.

That's not entirely clear. Slegers was "ahead of everyone" only when they urgently needed a back of the bullpen arm to replace Tyler Kinley, and Busenitz and Moya were not eligible to be recalled. And Duffey already was. Romero might still be the top starter, those other guys plus Curtiss might be the top short relief options.

Maybe Slegers will get a chance to replace Duffey soon, but if they'd rather claim Nick Tepesch 2.0 when they have a roster spot available, I'm not sure that's a good sign for Slegers.

EDIT: This was before I read the Levine quote. Apparently Slegers is "next in line" to start. But I could see that changing by the time they're ready to remove/replace a starter.

I think the Twins always keep a hitter and a pitcher on the yearround shuttle as the 26th man. I see the last 48 hours as a sign that Slegers is that pitcher this year. Last year is was Pressly/Vargas for pitch/hit. The year before, probably Tonkin/Vargas.

This year's hitter...I'd guess Vargas or Granite. We'll find out soon, because if they don't start hitting soon somebody is hitting the waiver wire or DL.
