Hamels on his way to Cubbie Land.

Pretty much a salary dump, I believe.

I have no interest in salary dumping here.....so if that's all the Cubs would do, whatever.

IMO, the Cubs went all in, and now have stopped going all in. That's probably good for a long haul of being the 4th best team in baseball......which is fine, if that's your goal.

edit: that's not totally fair, they did sign Darvish.....and before anyone comes on here and brags about how stupid those of us were that wanted Darvish....the Twins FO offered the 2nd biggest contract....

Here is your Monday morning anomaly:

Seattle is a full 11 games ahead of the Twins with a shiny 64-48 record.

Yet somehow, their run differential is slightly worse than that of the Twins, -19 to -17.

There must be some royal butt-kickings in those 48 losses.

It's partly the bullpen luck they had earlier this year......and a very different 1 run game record.

King Felix has probably started his last game this season for Seattle. The wheels have completely fallen off with -1.4 bWAR in 124 IP.

Kind of sad to see it happen to someone who was so dominant throughout his 20s. He had a decade stretch of 30+ starts, and 200+ IP.

I suppose it isn’t a coincidence that both are debuting at home, but it would have been cool to have two MLB debuts in one game.

It's not uncommon to let a guy make his major league debut on the road. Although the crowd may be more hostile, it also might be considered less immediate pressure for the young'un.

I had the fun of attending Rich Harden's Coliseum debut for the A's back in 2003. He already had two major league starts under his belt at that point. (His changeup was a sight to behold.)
