Circle me Bert no more

Look, I'm just not a fan of Bert's 'broadcasting' style.  The guy had a long playing career, & undoubtedly has a wealth of knowledge, but he'd rather play to this gregarious, fun-loving goofball character he has cultivated.  Those of you who don't know would be flabbergasted to learn how much of a pig the guy can be.  Bert's all about shock value.

I get that Bert has his fans- many of them, in fact- but I'm ready to move on from 'California math,' 'the best athlete on the field,' and the countdown to Bert's birthday.  The whole 'D & B' broadcast team has gotten remarkably stale and I'm ready for something different.

You have 29 options (if my math is correct)

Wow...of the many Bert things I've sort of grown tired of over the years, I still LOVED the Circle Me Bert schtick.

I'll miss it.

And now there's one thing for sure on my bucket list that won't get checked off.

You mean to say...

There's a hole in your bucket list, dear Chief?

Oh my.

If they're discontinuing it just because Bert is only doing half of the games, couldn't they switch it to his full-time broadcast partner?

"Circle Me Dick" signs at Target Field all year!

Somehow, "Circle Me Dick" doesn't have the same ring, as I say it with an eye-patch and a peg leg and a parrot on my shoulder.

I think it is mainly because of the inconsistency of Bert's broadcast schedule.

But it was one way to bring fans more into the mix (those of us who remember "Fans in the Stands) in the 60s. The Winner's Circle is a one-shot thing, as are many of the fillers that can't get on television between innings because of a lack of control over the scripting/performers.

Of course, those of us who go to the game seem to be stuck with "Blonde Cam": as well as "Shirtless Guys Being Drunken Fools Cam." I can stomach "Kid Cam" and "Bad Dancer Cam."

But Bert's Circle will be missed. A modest amount of interaction between a pro and the fan, not to mention an occasional fun game story....amazing how many people over age 90 do come to a Twins game.

This whole thing was a nothing story. They probably told Bert that Treasure Island was wanting a change to the Circle me Bert tie-in and Bert overreacted.

It started without sponsorship and now it’s back to no sponsorship. It’s just an old man circling people because he likes to.

What? Were they going to take away his circlin’ pen? Of course not.

I would like to apologize to all for the "Circle Me Bert" phenomenon.  In May of 2001 a bunch of college buddies and I drove from Mankato to Mpls for a Twins Game against the Orioles.  We thought it would be funny to make a "Bert Blyeleven" fan club sign.  We thought maybe our sign would get us on TV for a minute.  Instead we got interviewed by Anthony LaPanta and possibly created the Circle me Bert thing.

Alcohol was involved. . .

So who was it that was screaming during the interview?

Also, i have to assume, given the nature of the whole thing, that this stems from a memo which Bert did not read until today because he hasn’t checked his hotmail account since early October.

He’s been too busy scouting for the Dutch national team

In 2003 I was circled at the Trop in Tampa for my very generic "Circle Me Bert" sign. The girl I was with had a sign that said, "We love Dick too!" which Bert was very happy to comment on. The fine folks in security almost didn't let us in with the sign until we explained who Dick was.

I still have that game on VHS. The memories...

IDK. I wouldn't be surprised if they did intend to change it, then after some public backlash they decided to come out and say they still will do Circle Me Bert signs, just it is no longer sponsored.
