NPR and normalization of the GOP

Any NPR listeners here?

Have you noticed how often they have people on now pushing the GOP narrative? Have you noticed that when a Democrat is on, they ask loaded questions that support the GOP narrative?

What the heck happened?

I dunno. When I'm curious what the Republican party's headquarters is thinking on an issue, I tune into Fox News. If I want the Democrats' take, I try NPR or MSNBC. Congressional members just magically manage to find time in their busy schedules to be booked on their respective networks.

There are two or three interviewers on Fox who don't lob softball questions every time, likewise NPR plays devil's advocate now and then.

It's been crap for a while now, IMLO

Don't know what happened. What did you hear this time? Last time I heard NPR it was probably Jonah Goldberg talking, or someone like that

Dunno about this. I just heard an NPR interviewee refer to a Trump policy as "insane".

IMO, they give a pretty balanced viewpoint that focuses more on policy than the typical Trump hysteria found elsewhere.

Because if you only deal with the hysteria, it's pretty hard to actually inform your listeners. To some extent, you need to normalize Trump just to stay on topic; otherwise, you'd spent 75% of your time commenting on shenanigans that distract from the actual impact of those shenanigans.

There are hundreds of sources available to me if I want to read/hear about how Trump is just the worst. I'd much rather hear about what he's actually doing and make that decision for myself.

I absolutely agree with every word of your last paragraph; at the same time, I think a lot of the Trump hysteria is coming from the center, for example Romney circa 2016, and that the center is just in the hippy-kicking mood like it always has been from time to time. I think NPR has slipped too far into BothSides, politics-lite reporting of issues and I feel like this was happening before Trump came on the scene. Just my opinion. I don't know if NPR is doing any happy Nazi "just-like-you-and-me" profiles like the NY Times has done since Trump took office.
