Ryan LaMarre

It's a nice ST, but he really isn't a prospect, he is 29 and has never done very well in the minors (never cracked a top 300 list I believe)

Zero chance to make this team and very little chance to stick in the org, maybe this opens some eyes for him in Korea/Japan or can catch on as a AAA type for another team.

Best of luck to him, nice to see these type of guys have a good showing.

I kind of want to see LaMarre push for the 4th outfielder spot. He seems to be a solid all around outfielder that would provide more pop than Granite or Grossman. The Star Tribune profile also made him seem like an affable guy with MN ties that would be fun to root for. I know he's kind of a aaaa journeyman but I hope he can keep his hot spring training going!

There's no evidence that he would provide more pop than Grossman...the evidence is that he'd provide less.  Meanwhile, he's actually older than Grossman.  So, anything can happen, but highly unlikely.

Reminds me of when some here wanted Matt Hague on the roster last year. LaMarre struggled to hit in AAA and he has a very small sample size thus far... I'm not worried about Grossman and we have no room on the 40 man roster for journeyman outfielders.

When is he getting his ABs?

That matters.

Are they against AA pitchers?

Spot-checking at b-r.com's Spring numbers, his opponent quality is lower than Buxton's but higher than Granite's. Read into that what you will, about how much opportunity to shine is being given.

Yeah, Hague had a good spring for the Twins last year, but was obviously just filler to be used at AAA. That said, I still love rooting for guys like him and LaMarre, players that never really showed much in the past, but also ones that never really got much of a chance either. It's gotta be discouraging to put up crazy good numbers in spring training only to realize you have almost zero chance of making the big league roster.

Didn't Hughes actually put up some decent numbers in the minors?

In 2008, he had a pretty good year at AA, but not much after that. I can't recall the one Spring where he absolutely went off in Spring Training, and I thought.....this guy can bring the lumber.....and that's the year I learned, finally, not to read anything into Spring Training stats.
