Boshers DFA

He was the obvious choice, unfortunately. I always liked Boshers – seemed like one of the more genuinely humble players in my interactions with him, and is a nice story as a guy plucked out of independent ball in Wisconsin. I do think he'll end up sticking in the big leagues somewhere because he's got good control and a helluva curveball.

I hope he sticks in the org, would be very solid AAA depth entering the season. And with 2-3 guys at a minimum slated for the 60 day dl out of the spring, he could find his way back relatively early.

Boshers seems to be a player that is a good filler cause he is so close to being good in the majors. He had a K rate over 8 here. He gave up few walks. But just a few too many hits and homers.... i think he will land somewhere too. He's left handed. Who doesnt need a third or 4th lefty reliever in the back of the pen. Or in AAA in case you need one who can do a serviceable job when needed.

Let's see:  Duke, Rogers, Moya, Enns on the 40-man roster and Jay knocking is enough lefty relievers, and MiLB FAs with Boshers's abilities are a dime a dozier

Long overdue.  The post boy of replacement lever pitcher

He's got an option left.  I would assume that with all things being equal, he would opt to stick with the Twins unless he gets a MLB deal from someone.

Not his choice.  He either passes waivers or gets claimed.  If he does not get claimed he is outrighted to Rochester.  I think that he was outrighted before, so he can elect to become a free agent.

No way he gets an MLB contract from anyone, because everyone can claim him for the league minimum.

Yeah, it could be we don't really know how Jay is progressing and what their opinion is of his chances to contribute in 2018, so he's a wild card that could possibly be hugely impactful at some juncture. If so, maybe they move someone at the deadline. And quite obviously the organization has Rogers, Moya, and Duke, if healthy, ahead of Boshers in the pecking order, Maybe all three of those guys make the final roster. It would be nice to have both Enns and Boshers in AAA as injury replacements. Having this many LH relievers with some MLB on their resumes is a good deal.

Boshers is one of the better LOOGYs in the game. He will get picked up, but he'll never be an all-star.

Career .621 OPS against versus lefties. Not bad, but not dominant.

I agree, he'll have a place on a team that actually knows how to utilize a LOOGY.

I think the report that Boshers still has an option may be a mistake.  According to his profile on mlb.com, he was optioned by the Angels in 2014 and by the Twins in 2016 and 2017.

A player has to spend at least 20 days on optional assignment in order to actually burn the option year. In 2016, Boshers was only on optional assignment for ~16 days. So he's only used 2 of his 3 (2014 and 2017).

This is correct -- Boshers was previously outrighted by the Angels in 2014.  So if he goes unclaimed on waivers, he could elect free agency.  And he might -- he might be able to find a team with a more open competition for a bullpen spot, and with an option remaining, he might stand a decent chance of getting some 40-man roster time somewhere in 2018.

Boshers will be in The Show sometime in 2018. I was surprised how many teams only had one lefty in the pen last season. Note at the trade deadline, of the 4 arms we picked up, 3 were lefties, ala Andy MacPhail.

I agree Boshers will be in the majors for someone else in 2018. There are several teams in need of a lefty who can get outs most of the time.

It's nice to see our favorite team transition from a "rebuilding" team to a playoff contender... I'll gladly trade Boshers for Reed on the 40/25 man roster every single time.

I do hope if he wants a chance to come back he atleast gets a minor league contract with a spring invite. But with all the quiet he maybe done.

That's my expectation as well. I feel like we'd at least be hearing the "he's working hard" noise if anything was happening.

I agree with Thrylos (First time ever?).  Anyways, Boshers is an OK left-handed reliever that can fill in when needed without being atrocious.  Taking the human aspect out of it, the Twins need more than "OK" going forward, and as nice as a guy as he may be it's time for him to find another team that he can be stop gap reliever on until younger, better reinforcements arrive.  The good thing for him is, you can make a hell of a career out of being a stop gap reliever on rebuilding teams.

Good luck to him! I hope he gets more chances

Yeah, players like Boshers are ones you want to root for and hope they have success, if not here then elsewhere. That said, this was definitely the right move for the Twins at this point in time. Just too many good --- or potentially good --- arms in the bullpen right now.

I think he's able to opt for minor-league free agency, but with how the market is going, it might make more sense to hang around.

The reliever market hasn't been slowed this winter, and anyway, Boshers is marginal enough that higher end MLB FA don't really have much of an effect on his market.

Boshers would have to settle for a minor league deal regardless, but I'd guess he could still find a club where he'd have a better chance of winning a spring training competition, and/or a club with more interest in eventually taking advantage of his remaining option year.

Boshers is a good backup, if you can afford to stash him at AAA. Not sure if there is room at that inn these days. The Twins still need to find 10 places for pitchers on their 40-man at AAA/AA ball.

He will find a job somewhere, and not in the indy leagues.
