I hate the Yankees...

that's all I wanted to say.  I consider it good for baseball if they don't win the World Series next year.

Feel free to vent below.

Also, is Jeter trying to improve the team he owns or his old team?  I mean, why would you do that trade prior to the Winter meetings where he may have gotten a better offer?  I realize Stanton could nix other potential trade and that this was about dumping salary, but shouldn't you try to get something better for a superstar?  Just my 2 pennies.

Jeter should certainly have gotten a better haul of prospect than he managed. That wasn't all the Yankees could afford.

And as I've often said, "I wouldn't cheer for the Yankees if they were playing Al Qaeda".

Still, nearly a third of a billion dollars is a nice obligation to get out of for the Marlins, considering half the

contract is 33 + years old, for a guy that whiffs a lot.

Last year was a career year for Gioncarlo, perhaps even an outlier. He probably has several more like it in him, but those last 5-6 years could be ugly, especially for a team like Miami.

OTOH, he could go full Papy and be the best DH in baseball.

Still, the Yanks find enough of their own studs for me to hate them. Their best players are usually home grown.

Cashman has done an outstanding job collecting young talent and then both getting success from them in the majors and using other players as trade chips. Few teams that matriculate stars like Judge, Sanchez and Severino would have anything left that would be of enough value to get players like Gray and Stanton.

He did try. Stanton nixed 2 deals previously, then listed 4 teams he'd be ok with.

Jeter was told to get payroll down to 55M (from 115M), so the cuts needed to be deep.

OK, so he nixed the deals and listed 4 teams he'd be ok with...that doesn't mean that you trade him for nothing and also pay 30 million to boot.  Either Jeter is in over his head or the Marlins are now a farm team for the Yankees.

Here is how I feel about the Yankees. I hate every current Yankees team. I can't stand the looks on their smug faced fans have and the players alike. Now, after about fives years, I like the teams. I don't think you can like baseball and hate the former Yankee teams. At the least, you have to respect them.

I'll put it like this - I, as an Army vet, hate the Marines. Despite my disdain for them, I respect them.

Speaking of smug-faced Yankees fans, I have to say that BoSox fans have gone absolutely ballistic over the news that Stanton "snubbed" them by not including them in the list of acceptable trade destinations. Now, I have had nothing but fine experiences while at Fenway Park, a place with a wonderful atmosphere and knowledgeable fans in the stands. But the broader fanbase has become overly "entitled" in terms of thinking their team should just peruse the list of best players and reach out to take one at will.

Back to the topic. I hate the Yankee machine too.

I actually like the fact that the Yankees went out and got Stanton.   Forces the Twins hands one way or another to improve the 2018 squad.  The Mariners and Angels are also looking to improve in a big way.   85 wins will not get us into to the playoffs next year but we also have the advantage of playing the Royals, Tigers, and White Sox 19 times.   AL is going to be loaded, can't wait for 2018 season!

I'd be concerned if anyone on here actually liked the Yankees, it's like rooting for the rich entitled kid who is handed everything his whole life then proceeds to start a Ponzi scheme to rip off people even though he has a trust fund only to get bailed out by expensive lawyers. To me the Yankees represent everything that is wrong in the world. That being said every good story has to have a villain or it's not really interesting

As much as the Yankees, I hate their egotistical, entitled, our you-know-what doesn't stink fans.

So much this.  I could care less most of the time about what the Yankees do.  This Stanton deal notwithstanding, got a "you gotta be kidding me" reaction out of me.

Their fans however...

The Red Sox are nothing more than the Yankees with beards.

Cutting payroll to 55mil?  That's absolutely brutal.  Why have teams in Florida if this is how they are going to operate?

My finest moment as a human being was going to Yankee Stadium to watch a couple losses and a five year old kid telling me, "The Twins suck."

And I replied (12-ish beers in), "**** you! I've seen more Twins championships in my lifetime than you've seen Yankees championships!"

Ownership views this as an investment and they need to start recouping their investment.

They probably feel like the team is worth $1B, but had to pay $1.2B to get their hands on it. So, they need to get 200M in profit to break even.
