The intro to ESPN'S , KLAWS, write-up on the twins...

This system is deep, so don't let the presence of just three Twins on the top-100 fool you. They have two dozen or more players who project to some kind of major league role beyond replacement level or roster filler, including one of the most interesting, upside-filled short-season teams in last year's Elizabethton club.

That sounds fair. Let's see how Baddoo, Graterol, Kiriloff, Enlow, Miranda etc jump up the ranks after this season. That's a lot of high level talent but it is pretty far away.

Law went 25 deep in his Twins rankings.... way more than any other AL Central team

He had Baddoo 4th, by the way.

Since it’s behind the Insider paywall, obviously I’m not just to copy and paste the article in here (he wrote an incredible amount on the Twins) but would posting his top 25 Twins rankings be ok?

Law and Sickles are both saying the Twin's depth stands out as exceptionally high-quality depth. Sickles lists 21 prospects with at least a B- grade. He describes B prospects in general as likely to enjoy several years as MLBers, some as stars. Law describes two dozen or more as projecting to be above replacement level? Man alive, I'll take that!

Finally others starting to share my irrational (or not, we'll see) exuberance regarding Baddoo!

Where did Law have Luis Arraez?  Baseball America has him as the best hitter for average in the system, yet he can't seem to crack anyone's top 20.  Another sign of the depth, perhaps.

Sickles gives Arraez a modest C+ grade. Meaning two dozen prospects get better grades. He's lumped into the C+ category with the likes of Zack Granite, Landon Leach, John Curtiss, Kohl Stewart, Felix Jorge, Aaron Slegers, Ben Rortveldt, Lachlan Wells, Jose Miranda...

Some of the prospects that didn't get even a C+? JT Chargois, Jake Reed, Dietrich Enns, Mason Melotakis...

I think you can summarize his position on some players. I'd be interested in knowing how he feels about some of our low A and lower talent.

Thanks for the info.  Seems like Arraez is paying a huge price for missing the year.  I guess for now I'll just be happy that the experts feel so many have passed him.

Sorry I didn't get to this thread until now, but I'll stick my moderator's neck out and say that it probably goes beyond fair-use of someone else's intellectual property. IANAL, and it's probably a gray area, even for one. I appreciate that you were sensitive to the matter.

You could ask Keith what he thinks of the idea, of course. :)

What do commenters here think about the idea of trading some of these guys while the bloom is still on? Which ones?

I agree. Especially if we add Darvish. If we add Darvish, I would be okay if we traded Gonsalves, Gordon, Mejia type players for someone like Ordozzi or Archer

I really like the idea, but the people not on this site think of our guys a little less than we do. So it might take way over paying. Looks like we are about a year away from having a bunch of guys other systems might want. (which might mean we don't have to trade 5 guys)

Fangraphs top 100 is out:

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-top-100-prospects/

38. Royce Lewis

77 Nick Gordon

99 Alex Kirilloff

Wow. I can't get my mind around including Kirilloff. I feel like I could rank 22 TWINS prospects between Gordon and Kirilloff without being too out of line. (Okay, that was mostly hyperbole, but you get my point.) I wonder what they see that I'm missing...

Trade from surplus for high-ceiling prospects. We'll have a much better idea if we have an area of surplus by the trade deadline.

Once Darvish is signed,  ;) we won't need to trade to fill a hole on the big club.

Prospect for prospect trades are more rare than Vikings' super bowl wins....

Agreed. Best to trade from surplus on the big club for prospects when higher-ceiling reinforcements are ready. I can envision, in the irony of all ironies, the Twins having pitchers to dangle out there at the trade deadline. Spitballing here, but guys like Curtiss, Chargois, Moya, Busenitz replacing Duke, Rodney, Duffey...Gibson or Mejia replaced by Romero...

I would be shocked if they aren't dealing veterans at the deadline, unless they add at least 1 SP before the season starts.

You give the Twins prospects another two to three years and we may have 5-8 guys in these publications Top 100’s. One of the things I love and hate about baseball’s draft is the high bust rate. I love it because you can get a Mike Trout in the 20’s, but you also can get a Mark Appel or Adam Johnson at the top.

Falvine appears to have the philosophy of going after multiple 2nd tier guys and see which ones develop, instead of going all upside, but fewer prospects and I think it is working.

The Twins top 20 prospects ALL legitimately have a chance to be major leaguers (no hyperbole). That is very rare in a farm system. What it lacks in star power, it makes up for in amazing depth. Let them keep building in bulk and we will have numerous assets to trade.

I feel that Twins could have many more on these lists next year.  Too many of our higher ceiling prospects are too far away to have a good judgement on them (Baadoo, Enlow, Gastrol) etc.  And yes I am spelling blocked on some of these.

Saying nothing of the qualify of that 1 SP. And I personally think they need 2.

I'm really not OK with the idea that buffing up the bullpen is going to put this club over the top. Last year a lot of the young bats surpassed expectations and the rotation got by (barely) on smoke and mirrors. I'm not going to say no to bullpen upgrades, but to me, last year's bullpen looked to be the unit most likely to sustain last year's results and in fact improve upon them. My priorities still would have been SP, SP, big right-handed bat, bullpen.

I too am OK with dealing prospects to avoid the inevitable rotation disappointment.

Nah, the bullpen was horrible last year. We used two starting pitchers in our wildcard game. It needs to be upgraded. And I'm much more confident in our offensive nucleus than anything else. We'll have a good offense again. I agree that we need to upgrade our rotation but these improvements to the pen are pretty solid, too.

help me understand the part about getting more prospects? I don't get that part.

For example, instead of going Hunter Greene or McKay, both great prospects, Falvine went with a HS bat and turned it into multiple picks. It’s not revolutionary, but it was a great way to get quantity. For as much as we all want upside, the bust rate in baseball is too high. Quantity is (although it needs to be talented) more important, imo, especially for small to mid-sized market teams.

The other example is the Jaime Garcia deal. We gave up one prospect, paid Garcia’s remaining salary and got three prospects back. Not huge upside guys, but three solid and all three have a good shot of earning MLB time someday. Three above average prospects (likely 45-50 guys) for one 50-55 guy in Ynoa.

All I am saying is it appears this regime is looking to diversify its prospect portfolio instead of going all in on fewer high-ceiling guys.
