Organizing forum threads

I think it should be permissible for 40-man roster moves to be posted and discussed in the regular Twins forum....

I split off this question/comment from the thread in which it was posted to try and give it a thoughtful response, and didn't want to take that thread off-topic to do so. It was also somewhat off-topic itself. If you have questions or comments about forum organization, either bring it up in the Questions forum or send a PM to one of the moderators or owners.

It's not a matter of permissible or not. It's more a decision on who this thread is about ... did he spend significant time on the ML roster? If not, probably still considered a prospect, so thread was moved to the Minor League forum. If there were one big '40-man roster decisions' thread, I would absolutely think that would live in the Twins Talk forum. But if we are going to discuss these decisions and outcomes individually, it may end up going to whatever forum seems most appropriate, again, in terms of who the player was in the Twins org ... are we discussing a MiL prospect or a ML player? There's no right or wrong, only a judgement call. And are these 40-man decisions being made because of prospects needing to be added to the 40-man or because we are about to sign a ML player? Randy Rosario, while he saw a little bit of time on the ML team, he is still considered a prospect, imo, therefore a minor league thread topic despite the larger issue being the 40-man.

While there is no way to draw a firm line between forums, we do do the best we can to try and keep them separate and to keep them somewhat distinct and organized. While you don’t want too many forums, having one, big open forum covering all of baseball would make it difficult for a lot of reasons. Forty-man discussions do get difficult because those are the lines that are most blurred, especially if a player is up and down between AAA and ML, or we are having discussions about depth ... who is in AAA who would likely end up on the ML team or most likely be called up due to injury. These prospects 'on the bubble' could really be discussed in either forum depending on the specific topic of any thread. But in the case of Randy Rosario, I wouldn't quite put him 'on the bubble' or in the 'in between.' I think he's still a prospect, which is why I moved the discussion to the Twins Minor League forum.

There's no real hard and fast rule, mostly a judgement call, as I explained above.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness in the reply, ChiTown.

I suppose my point is, during the offseason--when real news is slow, there's no real incentive for putting DFAs in the minor league forum.  Although I agree organizationally it makes sense to move threads about Palka and Rosario to minor league forum, in this case, I believe it chills conversation.   I know not everyone visits the minor league forum--esp. during the offseason.

If someone posts a thread that's tangentially related to the ML team during the offseason, don't move it.

Sorry, but I disagree. Again, this isn't a single forum website and we're not going to make it one just because it's the off-season. There is plenty of news/articles to go around in both forums. I drew a line on this one and made the call. If the discussion surrounding the 40-man is who needs to be added, it's a prospect discussion. And until there's a ML signing, that's really what most of the 40-man discussion is about ... who to subtract because of which prospect need to be added. It's cleaning house time. And that thread has become a rule 5 discussion, which is a MiL forum discussion and always has been.

There also have been discussions, in the ML forum, with the 40-man in terms of depth discussions for the ML team. If that's where this thread had gone, fine, that I could see leaving in the ML forum. But, again, it's not where the discussion landed.

All I know, is I wanted to see what people were saying about the DFAs, and I couldn't find the thread (and when I found it, the discussion was pretty meager, in part because it was moved).

I'm not sure what is gained by moving the thread.  It seems a little silly, there isn't more latitude to leave things where people post them (esp. long time posters).  But whatever.

If you want to see a thread discussing ALL the DFA's from the 40-man and their impact on the ML team, start a thread that does this, then, in the ML forum. That wasn't this thread. This thread turned into a rule 5 discussion, and that will be moved to the MiL forum each and every time.

Another tip ... if you click on the guitar pick looking icon to the top right, then click on 'Community' from the menu, then click 'View new content' ... it's a great way to look for and find content without having to go in and out of each forum, essentially giving you a singular forum. It by-passes the individual forums to give users, like yourself, a different option for site navigation to fine only the threads in any forum that interest you. You can also use the search options, which are the other two icons.

I set that page up and forgot it exists. Well done.
