Do the Yankees still go after the big free agents next offseason or does this take them out of the running?

Well, IMO, Stanton to the Yankees didn't make sense.  So who knows.  Maybe it takes them out of the Harper sweepstakes, but Machado is likely still a target.

My impossible dream is getting Machado. Would hate it if he ended up a Yankee. They can have Harper. Sigh.

This feels a lot like the Fielder trade the Tigers made when they already had Cabrera. They twisted themselves in knots to get them both on the field and it simply didn't work well. I think having 3 of the exact same hitter in the lineup can be a liability. I would have been patient and went for Harper. Of course they still may go after him too.

Castro and middling prospects? For real?

Am I underestimating Castro’s value or did they just get Stanton for a bag of baseballs?

If this is the case, at least we don’t have to talk about trading Dozier for 3 more months. Being the NL MVP got a return that isn’t exactly expected

This is one bizare offseason. The Ohtani sweepstakes, and now Derek Jeter sended Stanton to join Judge and the Yankees. My god. Gehrig and Ruth, Mantle and Marris, Stanton and Judge, unbelievable.

PLUS Rafael Palmiero's comeback! How could I leave that out?!

Wow, just wow. Did not see this coming. I really thought San Fran or St Louis was going to get him, and then the Yankees jump in. Let’s hope they’re giving up some good prospects. Stanton hitting in Yankee stadium is a scary thought... he could approach 60 HRs again.

The Yankees won't be giving up that great of prospects for Stanton.

Everyone will complain they got him for little to nothing but that contract could get ugly fast. And lets not forget Stanton hasn't been a perfect bill of health either.

I wonder about team chemistry. Judge can't love this idea. Good luck to Aaron Boone trying to be a first time manager, with enormous expectations in the biggest media market with the most most impatient and demanding fan base in baseball, trying to manage the enormous egos in his dugout.

I can't imagine anyone in that clubhouse thinks this is a bad thing. Who wouldn't want Judge and Stanton in the same lineup?

Would think the Yankees are out of the Harper sweepstakes unless they want to completely blow the luxury tax sky high.  Could see them trading for Machado at the trading deadline in July and then seeing if they can shed enough salary next offseason to try and resign him.

If Stanton can remain healthy playing in that band box for 81 games and many more games in the HR friendly ballparks of the AL East, Barry Bonds single season HR record is not out of reach. Call that statement silly if you want, but I sincerely believe it is attainable.

Twins blew it.

1 Dozier 2B

2 Kepler LF

3 Mauer 1B

4 Stanton RF

5 Sano 3B

...

The problem is Stanton held all the cards in this, he had a full no trade clause and he reportedly rejected trades to St Louis and SF, why would he have waived it for us? NY was on the short list and that's where he went, kind of a bummer but we had the same amount of say in this as in the Ohtani situation. On that note we really need to start talking about a salary cap, the fact that the Yankees can do something like this with no consequence is just absurd

Mod note: I took this to be entirely in jest, from what appears to be a regular poster at Twinkie Town, and thus left it in view, but if anyone is going to pursue this tangent seriously, I'll ask them all to stop now.

Guzman is a decent prospect and Starlin Castro will probably be flipped. Marlins werent going to get a lot for Stanton when only absorbing 30M of his monster contract.

Idk what's more disgusting; watching the Yankees get even better or the way the Miami organization operates...

I'd say the latter. It would be no fun at all being a Marlins fan knowing how cheap they operate. This trade is nothing more than a salary dump for Miami.
