Article: Sox Win, Twins Clinch Playoff Berth

The Minnesota Twins lost 4-2 in Cleveland on Wednesday night. Then they sat in the visitor's clubhouse for a couple of hours watching the Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago White Sox.

In the 10th inning, Nick Delmonico launched a two-run home run to give the White Sox a 6-4 win.

The Twins Magic Number is now ZERO meaning that they will not need a Game 163, and they will be playing in the playoffs! For the first time since 2010, the Minnesota Twins will play in the playoffs. Most likely, they will be playing in New York against the Yankees next Tuesday.

When Delmonico's home run landed, the Twins players erupted into a celebration.

You have to feel good for these players and the coaching staff. Many of them were part of the 103-loss 2016 season. This group of men become the first team to have lost more than 97 games one season and advance to the playoffs the next year!

The Twins now will play a game starting in less than 12 hours, but they are in, and that's all that matters right now!!

Be proud, Twins fans!! Be proud!

Be proud, Twins players!! Be proud. And Congratulations!! Thank you for an incredible six months to this season!

I wonder if a Home/Home European soccer aggregate style would work ever in baseball rather than a one game, winner takes all in the current form? It just seems like baseball - of all sports - is just not meant for a single post season game and this would only add one day not matter what rather than a possible three.

Holy crap, I'm so happy!  Bring on the Yanks, we've got them right where we want 'em: on the brink of elimination.

What a year. The last week or so during the trading deadline was such a roller coaster, with the sweep at the hands of the Dodgers probably being the low point. To see this team claw back and not give up...just...wow.

Erv's been THE MAN all year and having a guy like that for a one-game playoff is huge.  How about a classic Erv complete game next Tuesday?

Anytime someone points out that the Twins are only the second WIld Card team, I remind them that in 1987 the Twins were the fifth best team in the American League (they won the West, but the Tigers, Blue Jays, Brewers, and Yankees in the East all had a higher winning percentage that year.) Thirty years ago... it smells like destiny.

Twins have no pressure on them Tuesday night, its all on the Yankees.

So all of our young guys are going to lace up as if it is just another game and play it loose and lively?

Doubt that, especially after Jaime Garcia had them eating out of his hand with junkballs in the dirt for five innings last week.

But, Yankees stars are young too.  Expectations are high in New York and media and fans relentless if they smell a failure.

I'd rather see a well-played game, but as long as Twins win, I will take anything.

Congratulations to the Twins - feels good to be in the postseason again.  I am actually looking forward to a one game playoff since it is the Yankees.    The previous Twins-Yankees series always seemed to be an excruciating death march - this one will either be like ripping the band-aid off and ending our season or a huge pleasant surprise.    Really nothing to lose - no one will expect us to win.

What a season.  It says a lot about the drive/character of this team after the FO dealt Garcia/Kintzler.  They got after it hardcore.  In the grand scheme of things it means nothing for the outcome of the game but I guarantee every baseball fan who is not a Yankee lover will be rooting for our squad.  WIN TWINS!!!!!
