How should the Twins celebrate clinching the WC?

  1. 1. How should the Twins celebrate clinching the WC?

    • Reserved celebration. Hugs, pats on the back, etc. Haven’t won anything yet. Eyes on the prize.
    • Crack open the champagne, get out the goggles. Full-on celly. Go nut.

Would be interesting to know if there is any sort of pattern or link between how a team celebrates and how they do in subsequent series'.  I'm hoping the Twins keep it tame and stay focused on what they need to do to beat the Yankees.

I think it's pretty universal. Baseball is a very long season, and only 10 teams get the opportunity to play in a postseason game. Let loose and have fun! Celebrate the accomplishments over a long 6 months.

I didn't vote either way, but the full-on celly is traditional for clinching the postseason. However, it can get ridiculous if we let it. I can think of ten possible milestones to celebrate: clinching a postseason berth, clinching home field in the WC game, clinching a division title, clinching home field in the LDS, clinching home field in the LCS (if the team were to advance), clinching home field in the WS (if the team were to advance), winning the WC game, winning the LDS, winning the LCS and winning the WS.

I totally get celebrating a division title.  I guess I'm wondering if a distinction should be made between making the WC game.  Team that wins that, I'd have no issue with celebrating that.

I can see champagne and craziness for making the World Series or for Winning the World Series. All the other celebrations are fine but maybe they should be just a little more reserved, sorta like you're happy but you realize you haven't won the WS quite yet.

The same goes for the walk off celebrations...maybe what we see during the regular season should be a little more reserved but in the playoffs, yeah, go nuts!

Making the playoffs is a big deal! Celebrate and have a good time.

Many of the past Twins teams seemed like once they had their clinching celebration they quit playing with an edge.  When your season's goal is a WC then party hardy. Jerry Kramer once said on the Packers that they would congratulate each other on clinching but there was no wild party. Winning is what you were supposed to do.

  • Reach the playoffs = Big-time celebration after a 162-game season. You've helped eliminate 20 teams.

Win the WC game = Regular-season win celebration, ratcheted up a bit. It was just one game. Maybe at the level of a regular-season walk-off win.

Win the ALDS = Hug-fest on the mound.

Win the ALCS = Pig pile on the mound, being careful not let to Bartolo jump on last.

Win the WS = Bigger-time celebration, complete with parade.

If I'm the Cubs or Red Sox I don't celebrate clinching the 2nd wild card spot, but if I'm a team that lost 103 games last year and is full of young players, you're damn right I celebrate.

This!

Even if the Twins lose 15-0 in the WC game, I will still always remember this as one of the best and enjoyable seasons I have ever followed them. Definitely top 5, top 3 if they somehow beat the Yankees :)
