Dump for Darnold

It's not looking good for ol' Sam Bradford... He's getting a 2nd opinion on his knee by James Andrews today. This may be more serious than they anticipated.

My view on sports is the same no matter what sport... If my favorite team is competitive, I want them to go for it. If they're not competitive, I want the highest draft pick possible.

So, if Bradford is out for any extended period of time, this year looks like the right year to lose as many games as possible. There's up to 4 QB's projected as 1st round picks. Most notably Sam Darnold of USC and Josh Rosen of UCLA.

What say you? If Bradford is out for a while, do you want to see the Vikings still go for it with Keenum? Or Dump the season for Darnold?

Keenum looked absolutely awful - and judging by his history, he's been pretty awful for most teams he's played for in the past, too.

The Vikes have no chance with Keenum at the helm. Not sure if they should trash the season just yet, but geee whiz what a bummer. What gives, Bradford? You're just fine the first game, tossing TDs, then your knee gets sore after the game and you're out for a month? I don't get it!

Too bad about ole' Teddy B, eh?

Cannot "dump the season" after the second game of the season.

Chilax. The sky is not falling. If indeed what they have is so awful, they will not need to "dump the season", it will come naturally.

Well unfortunately, in the NFL you are really at the mercy of your QB situation. The Vikings have a mostly good team, but with a bad QB, that almost doesn't matter.

Yes, I know there are exceptions, but they are rare. You don't see many bad QB's in the Super Bowl.

I actually forgot about Teddy being an option this season. Maybe he'll come back mid-way through the season?

The Vikings are in a tough spot. Both QB's (Bradford and Teddy) have expiring contracts, and 2 good knees between them. In an ideal world, they would let both go, and draft one of the new guys in the draft.

They automatically get one more year from Teddy since he's on PUP.

Just take a look at Houston the last couple of years as a prime example. Great defense, and very bad QB play. Stuck in the middle, basically. Good enough to be a one and done in the playoffs. Not bad enough to get a good QB in the draft without mortgaging some of the future. Which they did last year to get Watson.

Ah, that's good to know. I wasn't a real believer of him prior to the horrific knee injury. Not sure if it's wise to toss him the keys to the offense when we're coming up on 1.5 years of him not touching the field.

Admittedly, it might be good for the team's long term health, but Spielman would be gone (I'd fire him now anyway, these drafts lately.....I'll never forgive* him for taking Waynes over Peters, and ignoring OL in the draft until this year....

*meh, it's not like actually mad.....I've largely gotten over that for sports.

even if he plays this year? I've read conflicting things even if he doesn't play....though admittedly I have not kept up lately....

I've read conflicting reports as well, but the language seems pretty clearly 6 weeks (not whole season) to me. And, I've yet to hear any explanation from the other side WHY they think it has to be the full season.

What a difference a week practicing with the A team makes :)

I think that a bit more patience is appropriate.   The guy who played QB for the Vikings today can QB most teams in the league.

Spielman is on the hot seat.

There is zero chance he's going to dump games for a draft pick he wouldn't be around to make.

Not that I particularly advocate tanking the season, but if you can't trust your GM to make decisions for the good of the team and not his own (very understandable) self-interest, he should be replaced now. It's just the nature of the job.

Diggs and especially Thielen are no longer just cute stories that Vikings fans know about. They're becoming legit WRs and should be national names by the end of the season if they keep it up.
