I watched more than I thought... Opening day and just curious how they would look. Bradford played better than ever, Cook will make it easy to forget about AP, and AP was MAD on the sidelines yelling at his new head coach.

Since it's not the offseason anymore....

What the hell was with the "personal foul" on the Brees sack? Can't hit a QB in the hips anymore either I guess.

The lady behind me was irate: "OMG! I've been tickled harder than that!" It was hilarious. Then some other people behind me started arguing about '09, Katrina, etc. It got real for a few minutes there. Whew!

A few thoughts on today's game:

1)I've seen the Vikings cycle through some really bad CB's in the 25 years that I've been watching the team. But, Trey Waynes might be the absolute worst. He doesn't belong on an NFL roster let alone starting.

I've had mixed feelings regarding Spielman's draft picks, but this one is just an awful pick.

2) I'm glad I didn't toot my own horn on the new offensive line last week. When everyone else was saying they were going to be bad again, I thought they'd be good. Heck, just the addition by subtraction of getting Boone out of there alone I thought would make a huge difference.

And while I still think they'll be much improved this year, today was not encouraging.... at all. They looked lost and confused and were totally outplayed.

3) Please find a kicker that can hit an EXTRA point. This is just getting absurd.

I get he's been good on field goals, but they are 2 different topics, IMO. Missing extra points regularly is completely unacceptable, IMO.

4) After defending Zimmer at every turn the last couple years, bar none, I've finally had enough of his antics.

"Sam is fine. He might be back next week or in six weeks, but either way he's fine."

No, Zim, by definition he's not "fine", if he's missing games, especially if it's upwards of 6 games. This isn't MLB, if your most important player is fine, he plays. They don't do games off just for a day off in NFL.

Zim knows as well as everyone which knee is hurt, and the history of that knee.

If you don't want to talk about, just say "no comment". Dont treat us like we're idiots. Even if we are, its not cool.

Was it announced when and how Bradford injured his knee? He looked great on Monday and no hard hits come to mind from the game where he would injure his knee.

As far as the game today.... Once I saw Keenum was named starter, I painted the walls in my living room and watched it dry properly.

I'd fire Spielman by now.

Waynes, the WR that never plays, ignoring the OL in teh draft over and over.

His seat is warming up for sure. He had a few hits in the 2015 draft, then whiffed completely on the 2016 draft. Cook and Elfline from this year's class is already light years ahead of anyone selected in 2016.

Heading into next season, I don't know if either of the QB's warrant long term contracts considering both have serious knee issues. The OL is still a huge work in progress, and big decisions to make on some of the core defensive players.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ya, that was terrible. I didn't watch....but my son texted me a bit. sounds like everything that could go wrong did, and to top it off, they lost cook for the year probably.

Now Spileman may get to keep his job just because they lost their QB and RB and they have an excuse for this level of play....

Zimmer will most likely get a free pass as well because of the injuries.

As far as the game yesterday, the defense did their job containing Stafford. There were a couple of blown pass interference non-calls when the Vikings were on offense. The OL didn't give Keenum enough time most every play.

Same old, same old.

Aren't injuries a factor for Every team in the NFL?

I dont see that as any kind of excuse.

They were expecting to roll with Murray and McKinnon before they got lucky with Cook falling in the draft, so I don't think his injury can be an excuse.

Bradford, yes that's legit, but Spielman did bring him in knowing the history of that knee, so he doesn't get to totally claim unlucky there either.

I think injuries can be an excuse depending on if a team's star player is injured or sheer volume of injuries. In either case, you're missing a player who's probably worth 3-4 wins more than their replacement, or eliminates a vast majority of a team's depth.

Upon further review, the Vikings aren't there yet to claim injuries as a free pass for Spielman and Zimmer. There's already several teams with over a baker's dozen amount of players on IR.

There might be 2 or 3 players in the whole league worth 3 WAR, maybe. That's like a 30 WAR player in baseball. Plus football has way bigger rosters.

Most really good players in the NFL are probably only worth a fraction of 1 win. With only 16 games, and 53 players, that's the only way the math works.

In fairness, they are missing the single most important position in all of sports probably (unless "star" is a position in the NBA). Then, to cap that off, the guy that could take pressure off that loss was lost.

And no, they don't deserve any leeway. They've ignored the OL for years, and drafted Trae bleeping Waynes instead of Marcus Peters. $#@^%$#@^^

DOss gone know of a good twins daily style for Vikings chat?

The MinnCentric team used to have a site for the Vikings but it went defunct. The person who ran that site (Funkytown) had her own before and merged with them, but is now back with her own site again. I don't think they have the same format, and I'm not sure they have content writers doing articles, but there is plenty of forum talk, specifically Vikings talk. Here's the website: http://purplepain.proboards.com

If I were into the Vikings and football, it's where I'd go.

If Keenum can come in and win games, the packers have no excuse. Yeah, Rogers is special, but one guy isn't a team. The injury is kinda on him too, he didn't really try to protect himself. I watched it live and immediately knew what happened. You don't let a huge dude pile drive you into your shoulder. Barr did go harder than I would have liked, so I agree with Rogers. Maybe that is why he got hurt, he was expecting Barr to let up and relaxed.
